Most Underrated player in the league?

List the player who you feel is most underrated by the General Public. My Choice is Ryan Whitney of Pittsburgh. When people talk about the Pens all you hear is Crosby, Malkin, Stall and Fluery. Meanwhile Whitney is just his 2nd season in the league finished 6th in the league in defencemen scoring.

14 goals
45 assists
59 points
+9

he is a good skater, very elite at moving the puck and is responsible in his own end.

Ales Hemsky
Jason Blake
Kristian Huselius
Todd Marchant
Thomas Vanek

That's my decidedly random list. Not entirely sure about the general public's perception, so I just picked the first few players who came to mind as under-exposed.

Good list. Hemsky is prolly #2 behind, imo, Marian Hossa. This guy should be seen as one of the greats in the league and he gets moderate attention. Rick Nash too in the terrible Columbus market gets not as much respect.

I think Nash is rated rather appropriately considering he has never passed 57 points in a season. He's improved defensively under Hitchcock and become a more balanced player, but his production is still low for a guy who had so much hype going for him before the lockout

While true, he put up 54 pts in 05, while only playing in 54 games. I think its safe to say he would have topped 70 given a full season. And remember he is still playing on a terrible team. Who is giving him the puck to score? Nonetheless, he is still 23, so id say he has room to grow. And he is still an extremely talented star who is never really discussed, regardless of production.

I've always thought Havlat was rather underrated. He was putting up some nice numbers in Chicago. Give him a full healthy season, and he's going to produce.

Spezza is not underrated at all...

If anything Spezza is overrated. The guy gets all the credit for the line, eventhough its Heatly doing all the work. Don't get me wrong, he is a quality player, and he is invaluable to the Sens, but he does not deserve all the credit he gets.
