NHL AllStar Weekend Changes

According to James Duthie of TSN, we'll see the following changes to allstar weekend:
* An "Slam Dunk style" shootout in the skills competition. It'll see players performing tricks to garner points, just like in the Slam Dunk comp. in the NBA.
* Fastest Skater event will be goal line to goal line, which is a good idea IMO.
* Skills relay will feature stick-handling, saucer passes, one-timers, and goalies having a chance to try to score by shooting the puck the length of the ice.
* Youngstars game will be two 6 minute periods of 3 on 3.
...again, this is according to James Duthie...as he has stated that a 'source' has told him the following will occur. You can read more about it here:

That would be the best thing, beside an outside all star game, the NHL could do.

The shootout tricks event is a cool idea, tho possibly difficult to do. How many things are possible?

Well, I've asked myself how many dunks could be possible, so I have a feeling there's plenty more things that we don't know of.

Too bad Rob Schremp never garnered a call-up.

Too bad Toews won't be ready for this.

Toews would win most consecutive SO goals scored....there are better dazzlers in the world of SOs.

So what did you guys think of the Skills Competition?
Just didn't impress me this time around even though all the guys there had a heck of a lot of talent. Just felt too long and drawn out for some reason.
the young stars game was my fave bit out of the night.

I wanted to see something sick. Only thing that was even new was Ovechkin with the spin move. Huselius should have been an all star. He did 2 moves that have not been seen, and scored off the Ovechkin move minus the spin.
I wanted to see something sick. Someone hit it up in the air and play it off the skate to the stick. Something new.

It was terribly boring, I don't care if you can't think of a move (cough Getzlaf cough), just go up there and do something stupid. I thought someone would at least try something as simple as flipping the puck up in there (not juggling it like AO), and just trying to bat it in. Here's my idea from a pretty cool shootout move: (needs helmet tho) chip the puck up, head it down, and try to bat it in.

They should have kept the fastest skater part the way it was before, but I guess they are worried that someone is going to hurt themselves (not that it has happened before).

Yeah, who'da thunk it? Use guys with past success in shootouts for the shootout competition.

they really should consider making it nba style, bringing specialists for certain events. we truly want to know who the fastest skater in the NHL is, not the fastest all star. we want to know the most creative shootout guy in the NHL, not the most creative all star, etc.

The new fastest skater is lame. The competition should not be decided on who has the longest stick.

The breakaway competition was absolutely terrible. They couldn't even complete their moves. I don't care if they didn't score, but atleast compelete the move. It's like missing your dunk in the dunk competition. I didn't like how Nabokov tried to poke check either, let them do their stuff.

I personaly loved the 3-3 rookie game very fast paced and tons of offense. They should keep that aspect of the game and maybe use it in a overtime period time to time
