Just got suspended right before playing the Flames for making comments about his ex girlfriend and current girlfriend of Dion Phaneuf (in the said girlfriends home town).

I have to say, i have never heard of a player being suspended for talking trash in the locker room before a game. This is a whole new precedent.

The team doesnt even back him up anymore. Turco's comments were simply ' he better not back down, better be a man' which is clearly a reference to Avery's ability to start a fight and not participate in it.

IMO - Brett Hull just lost his job.

Avery's a moron. Dude should be suspended for life.

Here is what he said:

at both the comment and the fact that they suspended him for that.

The comment isn't even close to warranting an indefinite suspension, or even a one-game one. This was just the final straw that broke the camel's back, I guess.

NHL is finally making up for all the other **** he's pulled.

Sean Avery is the biggest waste of space in the NHL. First his comments about Dustin Brown and now this. Seriously someone needs to make some smart ass comments about his purse collection. He's such a fruit cake.

If the NHL didn't suspend him, Dallas would have. They've probably been waiting for something like this to happen just to get him off the ice.

Brett Hull should get canned just for signing this joke.

I cant stand Avery, and i think the game is better without him. . .but how do you suspend a guy for talking trash in a locker room. Pronger has a rap sheet 9 pages long, there are head shots every 5th night, Bertuzzi is on his 4th contract since the incident. . . yet Avery talks s*** about his ex and her current, and he is suspended indefinetly. Again, cant stand Avery and would love if he is never seen or heard from again, but its very difficult to figure out whats going on with the NHL decision makers.

If he was talking trash about another player i might understand...but an ex-girlfriend? Seems a little big-brotherish to me.

Avery is a joke I yeah you hit some hotties but shut your ass up. Your not that great I mean Hull thinks he's a star the guy is a cancer NY couldn't wait to get rid of him fast enough. I would love to see Parros beat the bloody hell out of him. First Brouder, Dustin Brown now Dion what a clown get over it you were more then likely dumped it happens.

I never wished a player gets injured but I hope somebody puts him on the shelf for good. He's the biggest cancer in sports more so then Marbury and Bonzi Wells if thats possible

I tend to think a lot of this suspension was based on making sure Dion stays in the league. Dion is a firey guy, i wouldnt put it past him to tell his teammates "sorry guys, i am taking the suspension on this one" and make sure that Avery CANT say anything for a long time. Think about it. Dion is a competitor, is known for his physicality, and Avery just insulted his woman in her home town (where her family still lives). I know i wouldnt put it past Dion, and really wouldnt put it past the league. Bettman just has to look at one of Dions teammates for a reminder of what retribution can lead to.

What i find interesting about this is that the wasn't pre-meditated by the media at all. Avery called the camera guy over to him and said what he said.

I feel for the guy, i seriously think there's something wrong with him that he can't control. I'd rather see the league try to help him through w/e it is, rather than them throwing the book at him

Avery has done nothing but hurt the Stars with both his mouth and his lousy play. The guy has talent no question but he is too busy being a "me" person than a team player. The guy has just killed the chemistry from last years run. Funny how after he was suspended the Stars played very well that night and won. Like MAS I think Avery has a illness that he can't controll. I think maybe he might have ADHD or something like that. I mean he loves the spotlight and does things to make himself the main focus. For example if Brendon Morrow had 5 goals in the game Avery would point out that he assisted on 1 of them and make a big check to steal his thunder.

It's called having a big ego, wanting to be the center of attention. Avery is a piece of garbage and nothing more.

Sean Avery is a grade A prick, and Elisha Cuthbert is a grade A hottie. I've liked Elisha Cuthbert ever since Popular mechanics for kids haha. Used to watch that show every week

Why does it have to be mental problems. The guy is just a selfish prick who thinks his face on the cover of newspapers is good for the game. He left broadway, and now has to find different outlets to constantly be spoken of. He is a media whore, a selfish person, and an ass on top of that. C'mon, we have all met at least one person who was a selfish di*k for no reason, its just who they are
