The one problem you have with that line up is all the D men are heavy on the offense. We need a shut down defender. Especially against the Russians. I really believe Regehr will be on the team. He is the best shut down D man in the L right now.

I would be willing to bet Burns (based on a very slow year this year) or Bouwmeester (given that of the listed D men, he is probably the least intimidating) will be replaced with Regehr, or at least a Regehr type player

Not really. That first pairing is hardly one thats more offensive orriented then it is defensive. Both Pronger and Weber can put up points but they are 2 of the best shutdown defencemen in the league. I actually bet you wouldnt find a better shutdown in the entire tournament over Pronger/Weber.

Players like Burns/Bouwmeester might be asked to be offensive orriented on there NHL teams but they would have to play a different role in this tournament which both have showed capable of in previous international tournaments.

Regehr is not the best shutdown defencemen in the NHL.

It doesn't matter because the USA will have Phil Kessel.

I will give you the first pairing. For sure we know what Pronger will bring to the table, and i think an underrated Weber will do a lot to gain attention when paired with anyone on that list. I do think though this year will be tougher than the last few. The Russians are so good, and so deep. The Swedes, America has a ton of young strong talent. Canada cant rely on a D pairing, they need it across the board.

I dont disagree with the people you have listed. Every one of those guys has earned a right to be there. . .i just think, based on how team Canada has picked teams in the past, there will be role players.

There is always a Ryan Smyth (role player) a Draper (scrapper 3rd liner). Its hard to say anyone on your list WONT make it. . . .but based on years past, i think there will be one or two that wont see this team

No Eric Brewer? I know he's not an offensive stud, but the man is shut down on D and he was an alternate captain on Team Canada before. Also what about Shane Doan? I realize he will be 33 by the time the Olympics roll around, but the man was the Cap' in the World Cup. You don't go from captain of WC team to no roster spot.

Brewer just isnt good enough to jump over a player like Bouwmeester, Green or Burns and to a lesser extent Regehr or Keith. Doan surely has a good chance to make this team and it either came down to him or Patrick Sharp and if Sharp continues to play this well over the next year and a half it will be tough to keep him off the team.

I like the Doughty. . . . but how many centers can you have on a team???

Theres no way I put S. Niedermayer on this team. Hes on the major decline and not even close to the player he once was or even on the Ducks championship team.

Bouwmeester, Burns or Keith would be much better choices then him.
