Whitney traded for Kunitz + Prospect.

Post#1 » by RoyceDa59 » Thu Feb 26, 2009 6:30 pm

Ryan Whitney Traded for Kunitz + Prospect. Pittsburgh couldn't afford him. Nice snag by Anaheim.

Thoughts? Pitts wants to bolster their offense for the playoffs, Anaheim grabs a nice D man for the future. Put this on Wiretap.

Great trade by Shero.

Whitney was expandable with the emergence of Letang and Goligoski. Letang is going to be better then Whitney, so Letang wasn't going anywhere.

The more and more I think about it, the more I like it. Tangradi is the big piece in this trade. He is projected to be a power forward and was the Ducks 2nd best prospect. 6'4" 220 and skates well. He is only 2 pts behind Tavares in the OHL scoring race. If him and Luca Caputi pan out for the Pens, Geno and Sid will score at least 130 pts each per year. And I'm not joking. Plus Tangradi is from Philly so I can see in the future, Tangradi kicking the crap out of Richards in Philly. How great would that be.

I really like Kunitz. I don't think he is the answer for Sids wing. I see him as more of a plug in. Kunitz doesn't have the skill set to put in 35-40 goals a year. He is fast, works hard, hits, and will fight. I just don't think he is the main winger for Sid.

I think Shero still has 1 more trade up his sleeve. Jordan Staals' 4 million cap hit and potential looks like it might get Shero that winger for Sid. I'm not up for trading Staal yet, but if it can get a top line winger, then I'm for it.

No onto Whitney. I think Whitney needed a change of scenario. He has really been struggling the last few years. He did have a major foot injury last year, but he was still struggling prior to that injury. And he just didn't come back like many Pens fans expected this year. He goes out to the best team for him. He'll get to learn from Pronger and Niedemeyer, which will help him big time.

Another thing to look at is the how these players will adapt to the change of conference. Whitney avoids contact as much as possible and the West is more physical then the East. Kunitz is a physical player and coming from a more physical conference, I think this will benefit him big time.

Overall, sad to see Whits go, but look forward to the future now.

Think Kunitz can replace (or at least part of) what Malone brought to the table? You mentioned physical player coming from a physical team in a physical conferance. . . could really help the Pens a lot i think

I think Kunitz will bring everything to the table that Malone did. The only thing Malone has up on Kunitz is his goal scoring ability. Malone is a better goal scorer. Kunitz has more speed than Malone which will benefit him.

I really think Kunitz coming from a more physical conference is going to help the Pens big time. Looking forward to seeing him play tomorrow and seeing Whits play in Boston tonight.

Nice deal for both teams in my opinion.

Yeah, it is wishful thinking. Richards would just turtle and that would be it.

Or pull a Lucic and skate to the bench.

Haha. Or he could let Richards punch him in the face once and then knock him over and start punching him in the head while he is on the ice.

I like Lucic, but that was pure cheap garbage. Maybe punch him once, for Brown doing what he did, but not 6-7 more time. He now needs to get a taste of his own medicine after that.

Lol. What are you talking about? That stuff happens every night to Lucic. He gets knocked around by some goon trying to take him out of the game. This time, two goons came at him punching him in the face. He snapped, like a geek on a bully.

Did someone really use the term "pull a lucic."??? The head coach told him not to fight. He is way too important to this team. And you know what he does the first time he fights in ages, maybe breaks his hand on some dudes face.

Anyway that was a interesting day for Whitney. Is in his hometown of Boston for a personal day, and he gets a call saying he is going to be playing at the garden tonight. Shows up, and it turns into what it turned into, a 6-0 slobberfest.

I'm really high on Eric Tangradi. What a force he's been this year, he's absolutely lighting it up. I think he'll be packaged in a bigger deal though.

He's not going anywhere. This trade wasn't going to happen without Tangradi. Shero is very high on him and was going to draft him in the 07 draft but Anaheim had their selection ahead of Pitts.

The Pens need to replenish their prospect pool and this is a great start. Plus, the team needs a power forward for the future.

The games I've seen Boston play, I've never seen that happen to Lucic. If that is the case, then yeah, he did just snap.

Tim, you have a good one in Tangardi. He is 2nd in the OHL in scoring right behind Mr. Tavares. I'm surprised Anaheim gave him up

Yeah. I am really excited about watching his development. Hopefully, him and Caputi develop like they are suppose to. That will be one fun top 6 to watch with them, Sid and Geno.
