Seriously, this is getting bad. It's not his fault Bettman crowned him as the NHL savior. I'm going to say it is a little bit of jealousy on their part.

Sid doesn't help it with his constant whining in the games. A lot of the hate is unnecessary but Sid isn't helping it by being a constant whiner on the ice.

Other reason is probably that he has the personality of a brick wall. Not really his fault because the NHL wanted him to be the picture perfect poster boy.

I don't hate crosby. But I certainly like Ovechkin more.

Every player whines. I've seen players this season whine so much more then Crosby and no one mentions that. It's all bull. He gets man handled every game. He has a right to ask the refs why there wasn't a call, which isn't whining.

I like Ovechkin too, but he is starting to get out of hand. His celebrations are starting to become borderline taunting. He has been taunting the Pens bench the last few games. He is starting to throw some cheap shots. He ran Malkin the first game this season and then there is this:

The sad thing is, the excuse for all this is, Ovechkin is just showing emotion which is complete garbage. Should have sat a few games on that Heward hit. He watched Heward have his back to him the whole time and still hit him.

You are getting reasons and you are in denial of them. Yet you bring up Ovechkin calling him dirty and cheap. The hit on Heward is far from cheap or dirty. Even Heward said so himself. Both of them have been friends for a long time now and Ovechkin would never try to injure player on intent. Majority of his hits are clean. Excuse him for being a superstar but having the balls to also be one of the toughest and hardest hitting players in the game. Where as him taking runs at Malkin, he kept them within the limits of the game.

Your complaining about his celebtrations? Seriously? Do you remember Crosby last year taunting Backstrom and the Capitals crowd? Ovechkin only has two celebrations anyways. Running body first into the glass and pointing at the sky (which is meant as a salute to his dead brother). Forgive the best player in the league celebrating after he scores...


This is one of the other reasons people dislike Crosby. Penguins fans. You guys are in absolute and complete denial of anything negative about Crosby but are quick to bring up the negatives about other stars.

I think another reason, and you kind of touched on this not being his fault, but NHL fans are forcefed Sid so much. He is the face of the NHL, yet arguably not the best player on his team. His face was all over all star promotions, despite the fact he wasnt in the game or the year previous. To take it back to Ovechkin, this kid gets it. The smiling and laughing during the all star skills. . . he gets that these things are entertaining. Why cant the NHL put a poster of him up?

Ovechkin has also been a solid contributor on Olympic teams. . . Sid hasnt had that chance yet.

That is the main problem to all of this. If Sid wasn't force feed down our throats, this wouldn't be an issue.

The NHL has calmed down a bit on him this season, which is nice. Maybe now they can turn their attention to Ovechkin and let Ovechkin deal with the heat a little.

Ovechkin is one of the league leader in hits. Every now and then one of his hits is going to be dirty. Law of averages buddy. His physicality is one of his best traits and why is he more respected and less criticized than Crosby.

There's a reason players don't **** with Ovechkin and why he doesn't feel the need to complain and white constantly on the ice like Sid does. I'm enjoying watching a physical phenom deliver bone crushing hits and awe inspiring goals. Dude hasn't missed a game with injury over his career.

You can hit players, yes, but don't throw cheap shots. I still maintain that hit on Heward was a cheap shot. He was watching him the whole way while Heward had his back to him and still hit him. His hit on Brown here:

should never have been made. My point is, if this is Crosby, it's everywhere and people are calling him a cheap shot artist. But with Ovechkin, no matter what he does, it is ok.

Like I said before, I like Ovechkin and he is the best pure goal scorer the NHL has seen since Pavel Bure. The NHL is very lucky to have him, Crosby and Malkin in the game right now. Unfortunately, the NHL has killed Crosby and you, as a Capitals fan, should be happy the NHL isn't over exposing AO, because once they do, he will be getting criticized just as much as Crosby is now.

Ovechkins "cheap shot" on Heward was as cheap as Crosby pulling Mclean's jersey on his face and beating the crap out of him without his consent or him punching Valabik constantly while he was tangled with another player.

Actually I put it wrong. What Crosby did on those two incidents was more cheap than Ovechkin has ever done in his career.

I don't even have a problem with anything he does nor do I have problem with Sid. I'm just trying to keep it real. Superstars get criticized and microscoped more than average or even good players which is what happens to both Ovechkin and Crosby (albeit more to Crosby because of Bettman).

Personally, i love Ovechkins physicality.
It makes him more of a complete player. Close to Jarome Iginla (i do accept that when Ovi peaks, his #'s will be much higher than Iginla's. . .but they are probably the closest comparison)
If you were to start a franchise right now, it would be hard to argue anyone else as your #1 pick.

And as for Ovechkin dealing with the heat. . . thats the thing, i only think that will make Ovechkin more popular, when it hurt Sid. Ovechkin gets it. He can do what he does with a big smile on his face. He gets that the All Star skills is more about entertainment, than actual skills. He gets that big picture, we probably shouldnt be THAT serious about hockey. . yet somehow keeps it as his number 1 priority and passion. Sid takes it so serious. He is burried in the buisness of hockey. . his own enterprises, and the responsibility the NHL has put on him. All his interviews are so rehersed and cliche. . . .

Look at it this way. When Gretz was in his prime, there were commercials, cartoons, days of our lives, . . . list goes on and on. Sid has a few commercials, but thats really where his appeal ends. If given a choice between watching a reality show of Sids life, or Ovechkins life. . .you have to be a huge die hard Pens fan to pick Sid over Ovechkin. Even on the ice, i really enjoy watching Sid play, but would rather watch Ovechkin.

Its been interesting as Canadian hockey fan to watch this unfold. Sid will be great, and great for years to come for both the Pens and team Canada, but in my opinion. . .Ovechkin is the better player and the better representative for the NHL.

Yea Crosby has no history of that...

Just jumping a player off the draw and pulling his jersey over his head without any warning. Crosby is like that rich kid whose always so good at everything and then one day something doesn't go his way so he has a temper tantrum. There is no doubt that Crosby is a very good hockey player but he there's a good reason he's hated on by fans and especially other players.

When people starting running Ovechkin he responds by scoring goals and delivering bone crushing hits while Crosby responds with whining and nonsense like his "fight" with Mclean.

Well Gretzky was the one who crowned him not Bettman... but I have my own reasons for not liking him
