The Ottawa Senators have reached an agreement to send Dany Heatley to the San Jose Sharks, NHL sources told ESPN's John Buccigross.

The 28-year-old forward was part of a three-team deal that will send the Sharks' Patrick Marleau to the Los Angeles Kings and the Kings' Alexander Frolov and Jarret Stoll to the Senators.

Sharks GM Doug Wilson, Senators GM Bryan Murray and Kings GM Dean Lombardi denied the report to ESPN.com.

"It's simply not true," Murray told ESPN.com Thursday night . "I've had conversations with teams today but still I'm not close to a deal [involving Heatley]."

Lombardi told ESPN.com via text message: "It is complete bull."

And thus, in a nutshell, why ESPN tries to ignore the NHL as much as they can.

At one end you have the Worldwide Leader and they have the most inside sources of any news outlet when it comes to sports. On the other hand, ALL THREE GM'S SAY IT'S FALSE.

EDIT: Traded to San Jose, LA not involved

OTTAWA (AP)—The Ottawa Senators traded disgruntled winger Dany Heatley(notes) to the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, ending a lingering dispute with a player who felt he was not being used properly by the team.

The Sharks gave up Milan Michalek(notes), Jonathan Cheechoo(notes) and a second-round pick. Ottawa also sent a fifth-round pick to San Jose.

Holy ****. It's for Michalek, Cheechoo and a 2nd.

What is Wilson thinking?

That's a steal for Heatley. Cheechoo is declining, Michalek is inconsistent and the 2 round pick is going to be a late pick.

The Sharks didn't have to give up Marleau, Vlasic or Setoguchi. Steal.

Might be a steal, but come playoff time, don't expect to go anywhere. Thornton, Heatley and Marleau are playoff chokers. Enjoy watching that.

Like it for the Sharks, could be addition by subtracting Heatley for Ottawa. At least they should hope that's what happens.

Indeed I will enjoy watching Thornton, Heatley, Setoguchi and Dan Boyle dominate on the PP.

That will be fun during the regular season, but when it matters most, I'll enjoy watching Heatley along with Thornton, as usual, choke in the playoffs.

 @ thinking Thornton, Marleau and Heatley will do anything come playoff time.

Michalek is going to beast in Ottawa and Cheechoo got **** on for being injured. He's probably not going to be the beast he was but he's still a helluva player. I would've been ecstatic if Gainey made a move for him.

Ottawa's roster looks like what now?

Michalek/Spezza/Alfredsson
Foligno/Fisher/Kovalev
Ruutu/Kelly/Cheechoo

That's ridiculous.

Good deal for the Sharks, but we'll see what happens when the playoffs come around.
