Garland to Orlando, Suggs to Cleveland
Orlando needs a PG, Cleveland needs an elite guard defender/better fit next to Mitchell
Orlando sends: Suggs, Jett, 2025 Denver 1st, 2027 Unprotected 1st
Cleveland Sends: Garland, Future 2nd
Garland gives the Magic a legit PG who can create his own 3's
Suggs practically guarentees the Cavs will be the best defense in the NBA, outside of maybe the Thunder. He's an elite 3/D, All-NBA Defender. Jett as a prospect, and 2 1sts to allow the Cavs some flexibility with trades/depth.

Re: CLE/ORL
I think this is a unique and fun proposal. I like it both ways, Orlando gets an excellent guard who fits their needs (and I think fits really well with Black, too). Cleveland gets a cheaper guard who I think would be a nice fit next to Mitchell + some picks for cost-controlled players or to find an upgrade at another position. I'm not sure either team actually does it, but it seems like something that could work for both if they did do it, which is about as good as a fake trade can get : )

Agreed, this is excellent.

I just don't think a team playing 2 bigs can risk trading a very good shooter in Garland for a questionable at best shooter in Suggs.

You raise a good point about the Cavs contract situation. Suggs extension kicks in next year, but his is a descending contract, so it'd help the Cavs out with affording the rest of the team immensely as the years progress.

Easy pass for Cleveland. Suggs is coming off of a major knee injury while Garland is coming off of a really good All-Star season.
Again, easy pass for the Cavs.

Problem is that Mitchell, while he can absolutely create anything he wants for himself, isn't as great at creating offensive opportunities for others. Garland does that. It's a fun concept, but ultimately one I don't think that Cleveland can do.

You're right, that was an embelishment on my part, but I also dont think his 3 last season was a fluke and he has shown competency in being a legitimate volume 3 pt shooter
This past season, he was shooting alot more deep 3's than typically (trained with Trae Young the past offseason) our team's spacing isnt good, and he was the team's first option due to injuries in like a 1/3rd of the games he played in this season.
He'd get alot easier looks on the Cavs than on the Magic, and is better at C&S than off the dribble which he'd be primarily doing on the Cavs.

I'd agree with you if they didnt get Strus and Mobley hadnt improved past 2 seasons at 3 pt shooting

I can understand if the Cavs want to see how Suggs looks after coming back first becore pulling the trigger, but its not like Garland is a standout for healthiness as well, he's been hurt past 2 playoffs

I thought he's worked on that the past 2 seasons, but if that is still the case thats problematic
Cavs are in a tough situation with the cap situation and being able to add more talent on their team
Edit: Maybe they make a supplemental trade for a bench guard, Okoro & whatever else you need to add to match for Sexton

Re: Garland to Orlando, Suggs to Cleveland
Interesting trade. I expect to see more Cav trade proposals, as it looks like Indiana is going to take them out.
Do the Cavs try to run it back? You do that when you win or at least get to the finals. But when you have an expensive roster and you get bounced early, teams are going to want change.
It is also complicated since the Cavs have not been 100% healthy these last two playoffs. Tough choices coming up.

Sounds like you agree it's best for Cleveland not to do the trade you proposed.

Re: Garland to Orlando, Suggs to Cleveland
Orlando doesn’t NEED to make this trade, they have enough assets to acquire a star guard withOUT trading any of their core.
Unfortunately, just have to remain patient and pounce when the opportunity presents itself.
I’m not saying Suggs is untouchable, but think Orlando will have better options with a team looking for draft equity/young prospects.

Cavs biggest problem with Garland is injuries, Suggs isn't better in this regard, I'd say he's worse...
Defense wins draft lotteries!

Eh, naw.
Still think that switching up their team is in their best interest, especially defensively. Looking at basketball as a cumulative thing instead of a fit thing will have anyone confused when it comes down to it.
Suggs is better than your average SG at creating for others & getting a good bench guard should be done also. The defense becomes alot more legit when you have Suggs at a guard position (also lets Mitchell rest more on defense because Suggs takes the hardest matchup) instead of 2 6'1 players as your starting backcourt.
They also get 2 1sts. Which they need badly. Gives alot more flexibility with their contract situation and to address weaknesses
There are potential question marks but also solutions to the point raised by Scoot, the solutions posed by the trade outweights the risks.

Re: Garland to Orlando, Suggs to Cleveland
I dont mind it for Cleveland. Cavs FO will have a problem justifying keeping such an expensive team if they exit in the 2nd round and sometime, over the next 2 offseasons, some tough decisions will have to be made. Suggs + 2 1st rounders - 1 being unprotected future pick - is far from terrible. Though i think they end up just trying, and failing, to win over the next 2 years and cross that financial bridge when they have to.

I'd do this substituting Mitchell instead of Garland, for Suggs and (I'd LIKE) Black and 1 of those 1sts instead of Jett and the 2 1sts. Does this work for Orl? Not sure...

This makes it even worse for Cleveland.
