Thunder go big with GSW

Post#1 » by Texas Chuck » Sat Feb 3, 2024 4:35 pm

So let me start by acknowledging GSW probably isn't trading Draymond. And if they did this likely needs a 3rd team, but you can assume your own follow up/3 team deal to address that. I'm not trying to complicate that. I'm trying to dial in value.

Bertans
Giddey
24 HOU 1st (top 4) becomes 25 OKC 1st

for

Draymond

Again for GSW this is likely part of a larger move but if not they get a talented player in Giddey who fits perfectly next to Curry and a first round pick, along with some financial relief.

OKC replaces Giddey in the lineup with Draymond who can also be the backup center. This is a we want to fight for the championship this year move, but still keeps assets for another big move this summer if they want.

I love Dray and think OKC should do this. Using Giddey instead of additional draft capital allows the team to stay under the tax until Chet/Jalen get their max deals.

But I’m not sure who Presti is bidding against here? Feels strong.

Does Green really have this positive of value (if any positive value)?

Yeah I'm so bullish on playoff Draymond. So I may be too high on his trade value? I wish Presti was bidding against Dallas though....And yes I know Draymond isn't really the ideal fit with Lively or Luka, but I don't care really. He'd only have to play 10 minutes with Lively anyway as he's the backup center.

This is the first actually interesting Draymond trade I’ve seen on this board in a while so props.

I think we’re gonna ride or die with the Big 3 til the end though

I think so too, though I kinda hate Klay being a part of that, though I get I why. But OKC is my favorite Draymond landing spot(well other than Dallas, but that makes less sense other than just me wanting it lol) so I thought I'd give it a whirl.

I have said on Thunder board that Draymond to OKC would be an incredible fit. That being said, the Draymond hate is so big amongst Thunder fans so I don't expect that to happen. I also think his trade value isn't that high given age, long contract and recent behavior but I'm not sure about Giddey's trade value either.

You should cut Giddey...trading a late lotto FRP and an expiring contract should be more than enough to get Draymond IMO.

Appreciate the feedback. For me Giddey being such a great fit with Curry was a large part of the appeal for them. He can't replace Draymond defensively, but he can certainly be the playmaker who takes advantage of how Curry was defended.

And I see less of a role for Giddey with Draymond added. Not sure how many minutes they could play together?

But yeah sounds like I'm overshooting Draymond's value and much like him, I struggle to value Giddey. He's such a unique player its hard for me to find comps to start from.

But I'd sooner want to pull the pick than Giddey. Personally.

yeah it's very difficult to have an idea of Giddey's trade value because he's a very bad fit in OKC and can be extended this offseason.

It really comes down to how much money he's willing to take this offseason but the kid is still only 21 years old with some room for improvement and would be a great fit in some other teams (GSW is a good example u right next to Steph, I think Utah or Brooklyn too).

Ultimately I think Giddey is still more valuable than the Houston pick and maybe Sam could get a couple of meh FRPs for him so I think that package is too much for Draymond. Remove the Houston pick and add Moses Moody? Not sure Moody help OKC but value wise it makes it closer.

Yeah agree with most of the premise. Probably won’t happen but very interesting and good fits.

I grew up a Bulls fan. If Bulls fans could accept Rodman with open arms then OKC fans should have no problem accepting Draymond.

That doesn’t address the value of the trade though.

From GS' perspective, I would like a lower upside but guaranteed pick in 2025 (maybe lower of Miami, Phi, OKC) and to include GP2 for Poku.
