Vucevic to GS, Looney to Dallas, 2nds to Chicago

Post#1 » by jayjaysee » Sat Feb 3, 2024 11:21 pm

So Moody has looked good and Golden State fans probably are excited about him. So took him out.
Spoiler:
I’d rather Dallas end up with Vuc, but a lot of Dallas fans don’t like that idea. Dallas can trade three seconds and match with Powell. And I have no idea how to value Looney, so this might be terrible for Golden State. Or Looney isn’t good and it’s terrible for Dallas. Or both.

Yes, Payton ending up in Chicago makes more sense, gives Dallas 8 million breathing room from tax and they can actually go looking for a Curry+Prosper for 10-12 million dollar player this season that actually helps. but then felt Chicago would be owed more than 3 seconds and Dallas can’t really offer much more.

Golden State: Looney, Payton, Cojo, Atlantw 2nds
Golden State: Vucevic, Morris

Golden State adds a floor spacing big that can rebound with anyone. They have a TPE, so should be able to get around the 110% rule here.

Chicago: Vucevic
Chicago: Holmes, Cojo, Toronto 2nd, 2025 conditional Dallas 2nd, 2026+2028 Atlanta 2nds

Chicago starts collecting assets and clears the third year of Vuc. The Toronto 2nd should be good, the Dallas one hopefully is very late, the Atlanta seconds are questionable. They could just use Holmes behind Dre and keep this team going.. But they shouldn’t. The Dallas 2nd only does not convey if Dallas does not give NY a first in either of the next two drafts..

Dallas: Holmes, Morris, 2025 Toronto 2nd, conditional 2025 2nd
Dallas: Looney, Payton

Dallas takes on Payton in order to get to dump Holmes and get Looney for two 2nds? If the big expiring contract deal play is real - this adds 5 million in matching salary for it. There is a role for Payton if he can get healthy and play as his GS self..

I don't see the Bulls going that cheap. They take a massive drop on the court, I doubt Holmes will have 25 double doubles in any 4 seasons to match Vucevic this year, so to take that hit for only giving up 1 year of his contract, costs more than a trio of picks likely 44-54. CoJo is a 32 year old no go, the Bulls still have plenty of guards who could use the experience

I don’t think it’ll change a mind, but the Toronto 2nd should be top 40 next year, no? They are committing to the youth and still really need a third piece to go for play-in in my mind.

But maybe that’s why you put trio of picks in the 44-54? Dallas/Atlanta in playoffs and one Toronto pick in the top 43? So 4 picks..

Vuc is shooting 27 percent from 3 this year.. i think we should stop calling him a floor spacing big

I don't watch Bulls basketball, but it matters less how many he makes and how teams defend him. If teams guard him he's still a floor spacer. And my guess is they guard him differently from how they guard Looney on the perimeter which is they don't.

I think it counts. He's not Towns or Bertans out there, but I'm guessing he provides some spacing benefits.
