This is it, anemic on both the buyer and seller sides. I was surprised that the Lakers and Warriors weren’t more motivated to make moves. Maybe that’s just a sign that both FOs see their respective windows as closed… if so, why would they burn assets at this point.

This part.

I can see both franchises probably trying to move off guys (Klay) that they need to but not getting any value interest.

Eh, this is pretty complicated actually. After this year they only owe one 1st rounder to Houston, and in a vacuum trading Mikal for two okay 1sts sort of sucks, even if it does solve the problem of giving the team a clear direction. And next year they also start the first of 6 additional 1sts they're getting too (mostly from KD+Kyrie trade)--so if they hold out for another year or two the picks they owe become less significant, and they get to not be a terrible rebuilding team, and they get to keep Mikal (maybe for a later trade?), and they can still start replenishing their young guys with all their extra picks.

I'd probably prefer the trade if I was a Nets fan but I don't think it's crazy to keep it together.

I think the time to sell will be in the off-season due in part because teams may look to move high draft picks after the lottery has been decided for quality vets since there's a lack of sure fire prospects in the draft and a poor free agency this year.
