Really? Cause the first absolutely sounds like complete bs. Go and find an example of any Sixers fan having Springer as a key piece…

I don’t recall seeing anything like that, maybe he was part of a package in some ideas. He got traded for a decent 2nd, which some are considering an overpay, So being the “key” piece doesn’t make any sense.

That said, the Celtics liked him.
Great defender…hopefully the shooting can come around in time for him.

I think, as is the case for any young player who has a pulse and has ever made a single good play in their careers, some of the home team fans get a little carried away. I'm sure there are plenty of examples of Springer being overrated by 76ers fans. Just like there would be for any young player on any team. I wouldn't characterize it as the "norm" though for any fan base.

I have a high 2nd as already overrating Springer. When I proposed trades with him, I usually included extra versus a straight expiring like House. So, I guess I was off. But even the most (irrational) Sixers fan would have had Springer as worth what? Maybe an extremely late 1st? I just find the idea that he was seriously pitched as a core piece for an All NBA guy just not matching the reality of this forum.

To check though, I did look back and see any post matches for the poster saying it happened. I found 2 1sts, a swap, some flotsam and Springer. Certainly not anything valuing Springer as what brings back a Siakam.

If I'm wrong I will happily own up that yes, apparently one absurd poster did post something absurd. But if not, it just strikes me as the type of reckless mischaracterization that I hope we can all do better than on this forum.

On Springer, here is what I see. A quick guard, but not someone I feel okay swapping onto big swings. And no ballhandling shooting whatsoever. He strikes me as a worse offensive and more limited and worse defensive Thybulle.

Now, if you need someone to man Lillard for 8 minutes, give you 3 fouls and you have enough offense to play 4 on 5, he actually could be situationally great. So, I actually like this for Boston as a very situational defender these playoffs.

Could the same be said against Maxey instead of Lillard? Yeah. I'm actually win win for this and think Boston using 2nds to bolster in this manner makes sense. But long term, I worry that Springer tops out as a one trick random playoff series defensive sub, even more limited than Thybulle.

He didn’t get much minutes or opportunity to have the fanbase ovrrrate him though.

If they were trading him it’s probably as a “I want him to get minutes offer” and worthy of late first or early second earlier in his contract and probably not as the centerpiece of a Siakam offer.

on the same roster, Paul Reed have shown more to be as sort of the overvalued young player instead .
