Pels go all in for JJJ

Post#1 » by lordjeff05 » Mon Feb 19, 2024 7:59 pm

Unlikely trade given the fact that both teams are on roughly the same timeline and are in the same division but...

Pels trade Trey Murphy, Dyson Daniels, Larry Nance 2024 pick, 2025 lakers pick and 2026 Pels pick top 4 protected for JJJ.

Pels go all in for the rim protector and floor spacer they need at the 5. If it doesnt work they have enough to pivot and rebuild.

Memphis gets all the ammo they need between these picks to rebuild their front line and the finally get the wing player they have been trying to get for years.

This move makes the Pels really thin but they free up enough space to resign Naji, got with a bench lineup of Jose, Hawk, Naji and two smaller deal guys this summer.

This trade makes no sense for either team, Zion sucks at rebounding and JJJ is maybe the worst rebounding big man in the league other than Zion.

Zion DRB%: 13.6
JJJ DRB%: 15.2%

They've had some years better than this, but not much better. How does this team keep anyone off the glass?

Their combined DRB% is lower than Gobert on his own despite Gobert playing with another center

Zion is a tough fit in general as he needs a floor spacing 5 who blocks shots and rebounds and there's almost none of those guys... But JJJ is not a good fit.

Memphis feels like they are entering their prime years to contend for championships the next 3 to 5 years. We are a frontcourt player signing or trade away from entering the season with the best Memphis roster we have ever had. I don't see them interested in any type of trades evolving their big 3 that are not clearly win now.

I think if Memphis was in a different place then the value of this trade would be in the ballpark, but that is simply not the direction Memphis is taking.

JJJ, Jokic, Holmgren, Victor - those bigs are simply unavailable right now.

I don’t think Pels have resources for JJJ. Maybe if they add Zion or Ingram.

I would ask Murphy and at least five 1sts, but it would still feel short

Value aside, as HeadAnEffectHere mentioned, Zion-JJJ would be worst rebounding frontcourt in history of basketball. Yes shot-blocking and 3pt shooting would be nice, but not nice enough to offset that rebounding problem.
Also i don't think Memphis would consider trading JJJ unless its significant overpay.

Nothing New Orleans could offer would entice us to trade Jaren. He is untouchable unless for a clear upgrade that fits the timeline. Not pieces.

Respectfully, JJJ doesn't belong in this group.

Somewhere between Bam and Myles in terms of value, integral to the team concept, worth more to us than you, all that stuff. But nowhere near those other 3 you mentioned.

As a Grizzlies fan, I am not sure I care much how JJJ is valued against those guys. That group was “assembled” to visualize how currently unavailable JJJ is from the seller perspective. Having said that, I do not necessarily disagree with your view, but seeing JJJ under Bam made me smile.
