Jordan Clarkson trade value

Post#1 » by HadAnEffectHere » Sun Feb 25, 2024 12:54 pm

Every local reporter for the Jazz is hinting that Clarkson is unhappy and wants out.

Clarkson had many good years for the Jazz, but he's fallen off dramatically this season, being one of the worst players in the NBA going by wins above replacement player. This could be a random fluke or he could have fallen off due to turning 31.

Clarkson has a 2 year, $28m contract that is fully guaranteed, making ~$14m each year.

Obviously he will not get a first and may not even get a second round pick at this point, but is there an almost contender out there with 14m in dead or near dead money that wants to gamble on Clarkson turning it around? Or would the Jazz have to attach picks to get off of this contract?

The only trade I've thought of where the Jazz wouldn't have to surrender picks is

Jazz get: Gabe Vincent, Max Lewis
Lakers get: Clarkson

If GS can't come to terms with Klay, I could see GS offering CP3 (guaranteed for enough to make trade legal). But don't think they would offer any other assets.

He might be frustrated with this season, but I doubt he wants out. If he does, though, I think he's given enough to the franchise that we owe it to him to send him somewhere he wants to be. To me, he looks like the same Jordan, just on a worse team that asks too much of him. I think someone would be getting a very good bench scorer and would be pretty happy with him at 14 million a year. An expiring and a second or two sounds about right to me.

Why would the Jazz need to surrender picks? he's neutral at worst, he'll fetch and expiring easily, probably 2nd rd pick on top of it.

Yeah, Utah did well with his contract. Worst case is an expiring and a couple seconds IMO.

Jordan Clarkson is the 6th worst player in the NBA this year according to VORP.

Hopefully no one is paying attention to the Jazz this year so they haven't noticed and we can get a 2nd.

Wow! Didn't realize he's that inefficient this season, still, any team would gamble an expiring for him.

I don't know if the Grizzlies would be interested in this but:

Grizzlies get: Jordan Clarkson
Jazz get: Cap space
Pistons get: Luke Kennard (team option picked up by Memphis to allow for the trade)

Pistons get some shooting, Jazz get some cap space, Grizzlies get more on-ball creation.

Would Charlotte do Bertans for Clarkson?

I really doubt it, Kennard gives us a special skillset that can work with out stars on the court. But more than likely Kennard's salary spot is going to be turned into a frontcourt player via trade or releasing him and Memphis having the full MLE.

Let's change this up a bit then

Grizzlies get: Jared Vanderbilt, Max Lewis
Lakers get: Jordan Clarkson
Jazz get: Cap space
Pistons get: Luke Kennard

Is there something here or no?

I think we are trying to aim higher than Vandy in a trade with Kennard+assets and we likely don't have the roster spot for Lewis next season so he is not incentive here unless rerouted for a future 2nd. Vandy is just too injury prone to be relied on next year, if we going for injured big man rather swing for Rob Williams. I think there is a good chance if no trade is found at the draft then we likely release Kennard. At that point we would have the full MLE, or the ability do to a SNT and stay under the apron, and we have some DPEs too that could come into play. Likely have to clear some salary if we want to swing for a bigger SNT or use the DPE and MLE. We could also still resign Kennard after releasing him as well. We are basically looking for the best way to utilize some 15-25 million below the first apron.

I do like Vandy and think he could help but I think we looking for a little more size and track record, but wouldn't be opposed to your offer if we can swing other salary like Zaire and Konchar for another frontcourt player.
