PHX/MEM - Morant for Booker

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Thu Apr 25, 2024 5:47 pm

Phoenix gets: Ja Morant

Memphis gets: Devin Booker

Why for Memphis? They take an exit path from the Morant business while still getting a star back, they can either start Booker at PG beside Bane or start Smart, Booker and Bane.

Why for Phoenix? Ishbia's itchy trigger finger blows it up after disappointing loss, the fit with Durant is good as the closest thing to Westbrook he'll have played with since along with Beal being the primary SG.

It looks like a fair deal to me. Now, the question for Memphis FO here is whether they think Ja is somehow mentally “broken” and, as a result, prefers or needs a change of scenery to re-start his career with new franchise. I haven’t seen any signs of it so far. It rather looks to me that Ja has matured and got a chip on his shoulder. If this is the case, Memphis FO should keep him.

Have Ja's issues suddenly evaporated? Can't see him remotely worth Booker.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Yeah, can't you tell? Ja Morant came back for 9 games, stayed out of trouble, and Memphis fans only needed those 3 weeks to conclude he is the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ.

I don't think I would trade Booker for pre-gun pre-shoulder surgery Morant

Unless Booker implodes this last games of the playoffs, hard to see the Suns pulling the trigger.
If he does implode, could be a good bet on the suns part, Morant is cheaper, same contract lenght?

I think you add Memphis’ lottery pick…and maybe a couple of their bench prospects to close the financial gap..

Memphis says no, Devin great player but not that big a difference between he and Des to me. We unlike the Suns value PG play and Booker is best at SG. Also believe Ja will be a better player starting next year on top of being younger and cheaper.
