Trae Young to Orlando (4 team with Sixers and Spurs)

Post#1 » by PhillyFan11 » Fri May 17, 2024 12:35 am

Sixers out: ‘26 OKC/Hou/LAC 1st and 2 2nd’s
Sixers in: Keldon Johnson and DeAndre Hunter

Sixers utilize cap space to get 2 starting wings for minimal value

Magic out: Cole Anthony, Jett Howard, Jonathan Issac, ‘25 & ‘26 1st’s
Magic in: Trae Young

Magic get the lead guard/scorer they need without completely depleting their assets

Spurs out: Keldon Johnson
Spurs in: Cole Anthony and Jonathan Issac

Spurs get a young PG without giving up any picks. They have plenty of wings to replace Johnson and more picks coming this year + Issac is still an intriguing talent if healthy.

Hawks out: Trae Young and DeAndre Hunter
Hawks in: Jett Howard, ‘25 1st via Orl, ‘26 1st via Phil(Via OKC/Hou/LAC), ‘26 1st via Orl, and 2 2nd’s via Phil

Hawks clear nearly $60M in cap space while essentially getting 4 1st’s back for Trae.

Rather have Dejounte...take Isaac out and keep it simple. Paolo will choke Trae after the first half of Trae throwing him lobs and calling for picks.

The idea of a Isaac and Wemby frontcourt made me lol. Defense would be suffocating.

The Hawks arent getting enough value here. I also dont like it for the Sixers.

Do you think DeAndre Hunter has value with his contract? To me he doesn’t the Hawks being able to clear that entire contract without taking anything back is borderline 1st round pick value for them.

Really bad for Atlanta. Orlando with Trae after already being a PO team....none of those picks are appealing at all.

Surface level maybe not, but there’s no way you’re factoring in the salary cap ramifications if you don’t think that’s enough value for the Hawks. This would allow them to go after essentially anybody they want to replace Trae next offseason with max cap space and picks to trade. Short 1 season reset for them makes a ton of sense, especially after getting lucky in the lotto.

Spurs own the Hawks pick next year from the Murray trade, so there is no point in resetting. Plus no one that will realistically hit the market Id rather have than Trae for the Hawks. Very rare anyone is letting their top players hit the market.

Didnt mean it like tanking for a pick. I meant reset in terms of “we’ve tried this team for long enough and it doesn’t work.” The Hawks are in terrible shape cap wise without picks and still won’t have a team that can realistically compete for a championship. And they are probably still good enough to be near/in the play-in in the East even without Trae, so tanking isn’t really an option. Resetting with Murray, Johnson, Sarr, max cap space, and 3+ 1st’s to trade gets them out of the purgatory of being a perennial 5/6 seed that can’t get out of the 2nd round they are in danger of entering. As a Sixers fan I know that all too well….

Yeah they definitely need a shake up because the Trae/Murray duo isn't working (they have bad net rating together) but I'd much rather trade one of those 2 (preferably rather trade Murray) for more of a win now piece than picks. The only picks they can really trade Trae for would be to the Spurs to get the Hawks picks and more but I really think Spurs should just build around Wemby with all the picks they have now and the future. And even then id rather keep Trae than get their own picks back when he’s only 25. In the original deal that looks like probably 3 non lottery picks... meh just not appealing. As far as cap, I think they will try to trade Capela maybe Hunter too for cap relief.

I'd rather have Trae and Hunter than Howard and 3 late firsts.

If Magic want Trae it will be most likely a two team trade. Spurs and especially 76ers are here just to suck assets from Hawks.

If Atlanta wants reset more than rebuild they should be interested in Suggs, Black, Isaac, Howard. I dont know if there is other team with collection of players and picks to make Hawks better in present while adding future assets.

Is Trae's ball dominance what the Magic need? I get wanting a PG to help set the stage and provide some scoring. But isn't Trae a lot more of a high usage heliocentric player? Doesn't Orlando want Paolo to be on ball more often than not?

How does Black or Howard help the hawks reset though? Hawks also have Bufkin from the same draft (most thought he would go ahead of Howard) who they like that broke into the rotation late in the season….Suggs I agree but he instead would be a great fit next to Trae.

You think he'll choke Trae, but you want the one guy in the league who has actual, documented beef with Paolo instead? Nah, I'll pass on that poison.

Mixing Young/Murray with Suggs/Black seems like good idea for both teams similar to Garland/Mitchell. I dont know if Hawks are desperate enough to agree to a trade without Suggs, but i wouldnt mind Young/Black backcourt as Orlando fan.
Howard has chance to be really good. I liked Bufkin a lot before the draft, but Howard mix of size, shooting and footwork seems rare. I have no problem not making a trade with Hawks, sign someone like Tyus Jones and watch Anthony Black and Jett Howard increase their value. Orlando has no problem standing from negotiating table i dont think Hawks have that luxury. Some team will squeeze them. Same with Cleveland. Now that the reports surfaced they are like lemon before making lemonade.
