Assumption: Charlotte operates over the cap ie keeps bridges
Charlotte trade: Bertans, 42, 2025 PHI 2nd (can add their expiring fillers like martin/curry etc too if they want)
Charlotte receive: Brown
Dallas trade: THJ, MIA 2028 2nd
Dallas receive: McDaniels (into TPE)
Toronto trade: Brown, Mcdaniels
Toronto receive: THJ, Bertans, 42, 2025 PHI 2nd, MIA 2028 2nd
Why for Charlotte: upgrade wing rotation for 2nds.
Why for Toronto: get some 2nds for Brown/eating salary
Why for Dallas: free up MLE and get a THJ sized exception

Re: Charlotte - Toronto - Dallas
I think this is a hard sell for Charlotte to pay 2 2nds to turn Bertans' partial into Brown's contract. Other teams obviously should do this.

Could also add or replace with their other expirings bunched up (martin/richard/curry etc) to save money/roster spot. In which case just guarantee bertans at the minimum needed to match. Charlotte just needs to get to 16M

I think that is more likely but Curry is unGTD. Richards can likely be spun off for cap space/2nd already imo. So really the only contract that Charlotte is getting off is the 8m expiring Martin here. Is that worth 15m additional salary and 2nds when Brown himself is at best worth 15m on the open market. I guess it is possible if Charlotte wants to be an over the cap team and have the MLE after resigning Bridges.

Bertans is 5.25m minimum guaranteed so its additional 10M, not 15M.

I didn't think you were taking in Bertans on the counter offer. If the offer is Bertans/Martin/2nds for Brown then that is something I could see Charlotte doing. But does Toronto really want to create a bad contract just for some 2nds. I guess if staying over the cap is Toronto's best decision and this is the best value then it's fine. I think the head math works out to only having to GTD Bertans a few million more to make this work and Toronto can still cut him.

Re: Charlotte - Toronto - Dallas
if we have a reason to go that route, sure I'd trade 2 2nds for Brown, but Charlotte can create $30M-35M in cap space while retaining Bridges cap hold (or $45-50M letting Bridges go) by just cutting our nobodies and stretching their small guarantees.
Bertans: $1.7M/year for 3 years
Martin: $1.6M/year for 5 years
trade Richards into some TPE
cut Seth, McGowens, Poku, keep Thor
Charlotte cap sheet looks very clean:
Ball: 35
Bridges cap hold: 15
Gant: 13
Miller: 11
Micic: 8
Mann: 5
Mark: 4
NSJ: 2.5
Thor: 2
#6 pick: 7.5
dead cap: 3.5
=$106M
are we really valuing Bruce Brown and Nick Richards over $35M in pure cap space (minus one vet min slot worth of cap space for the next few years) or close to $50M if Bridges walks?

Does it work (legally) if we just do a simple THJ (+ 2nd(s)) for Mcdaniels? Mcdaniels into TPE so it creates THJ TPE? Would Toronto need to decline Brown’s option before that?

Re: Charlotte - Toronto - Dallas
I like it better with the Martin/Richards/small salary idea for Charlotte. Whether it’s Brown or THJ, taking on a few million dollars to get an actual NBA rotation player is worth it..
Then I think I prefer Martin’s 20 games a year over McDaniels 80? Either one should open the money needed and Toronto saves money keeping McDaniels.
But if Charlotte thinks they can get a better asset or player using their cap space, they should. And they might could.
Feel like they could line the moves up to use 20 million in cap space and then do Richards/Martin/? for Brown and keep Bridges? Have never really played with their cap numbers.
