1) Cap smoothing
2) Apron restrictions
3) Supermax

The apron restrictions are significant enough that teams like ATL will be hesitant to take on a supermax deal for a guy like KAT if they don't see a clear path to contending.

A team with space and desire to improve rapidly (e.g., DET) makes more sense.

I must have missed the memo that Cam Johnson has negative value or would be a salary dump. Many teams would value him at what $25-$27 million per the next few years. A team like the Kings would see him as an upgrade over Barnes and add a pick or 2 I'd think.

It's a nice proposal though. If I'm Minny I'd look hard at this type of deal. Edwards needs some help in the shot creating department and they have no guard prospects as Conley ages. Johnson would give them a different dynamic and potentially free up time for Reid too.

KAT is one of the most efficient offensive players in the league that is much improved defensively. He was very very good on both sides in the first two rounds of the playoffs. If you are going to judge him on three games against Dallas, that’s a mistake. I think Minnesota runs it back rather than doing this.

Fair enough - I'm just not sure what his true value is based on his new contract and recent injury history.

He had a great year, but I think he'd benefit much more from partnering with a true/pure playmaker instead of Ant (although Ant will improve at this).
