MIN/CLE/CHA/BRK
I'm mostly interested in whether these are seen as good fits... i feel like it's impossible to value Mikal and KAT right now, there are huge ranges in what's considered good value... but I'm gonna try.
Wolves trade KAT, [2031 1st]
Wolves receive Garland, DFS
Minnesota, despite their great run, show their roster imbalance and KAT's fit just doesn't seem to be there anymore. They swap out their uber talented big for great fits at PG in Garland and 3&D forward DFS. There is a tiny bit of cap savings in there too.
Cavs trade Garland, Niang, [#20]
Cavs receive Mikal Bridges, Grant Williams
Cleveland swaps out Garland for fit around Mitchell as Garland has seemed somewhat marginalized next to Mitchell. Mikal is 3&D super deluxe while Grant is straight up 3&D no frills. Both make a ton of sense between Mitchell and the Cavs bigs. Also notable cap savings, roughly the amount of Niang's contract.
Hornets trade [#6, 2027 CHA 1st], Grant Williams, filler (Richards, Martin, Bertans... 1 yr $18M guaranteed between them), cap space
Hornets receive KAT
Charlotte stops running in place, bets on themselves, and actually tries to win. Huge gamble on health of their existing players and their new coaching staff, but LaMelo/Miller/Miles Bridges/Towns/Williams is a top 5 with enough talent to compete... if healthy. The bench still needs work for sure, but gotta start somewhere.
Brooklyn trade Mikal Bridges, DFS
Brooklyn receives [#6, #20, 2027 CHA 1st, 2031 MIN 1st], Charlotte filler, Niang
The Nets pick a direction, and that direction is asset collection. They get several picks, including a 6th pick this year, some cap savings, and a bunch of bite size contracts to throw around in Presti/Ainge style salary dump trades for more assets.

Basically every team involved in this would want to cut the Hornets out.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Re: MIN/CLE/CHA/BRK
Charlotte can just trade 3 firsts and filler for KAT, it doesn't need all this complication
And if that is all it took for Mikal and DFS Charlotte should just go for that instead

Charlotte can offer that - but Wolves say no. Wolves don’t need or want or accept a picks based package for Towns. You need to try and think about what other team may want in transaction - more so when a core player being traded.

Towns' contract makes it near impossible to get the players you want. Just getting off the Towns money and getting 3 first round picks back since they have none (not to mention Charlotte has been incompetent and CHA firsts are super valuable)

Might all be true - completely wrong direction for Wolves and not at all of interest to them. Wolves are a win-now team, they will not make a picks based package trade. DOA.

KAT is an albatross in waiting on that contract. He's all yours and I'm unsure why the KAT to CHA dead horse keeps getting flogged.

I think there are 15 players slated to make around $50 million next season, which makes me think his contract will not be as unmovable as you might think.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

This. 25 players above 40M. And this is before new CBA (previous contracts handed out) and before free agency, and before next round of extensions handed out.

I think if cavs-min are going to be involved in a trade, it would center around Garland to Minny and KAT to cleveland with filller to balance out salary.

I agree. Some Wolves fans were disappointed that the cap next year will only go up 3.66%, because it meant less wiggle room under the second apron. Personally, I thought it was a good thing longterm because KAT (and Ant’s) max extensions are tied to the cap, so their first year will be smaller, and all future increases are raises based on that first year. With the rich new tv deal creating 10% cap increases starting in 2026, Towns and Ant’s deals will be relatively cheaper than upcoming max deals for the foreseeable future.

This effect is pretty small. Four years of a 35%-of-cap max getting 8% raises while the cap goes up 10% will still have you making 32.5% of the cap.

Re: MIN/CLE/CHA/BRK
Minny's issue is not roster fit, it's KAT and Ant shooting 30% from the field all of a sudden. KAT's shooting 27% on wide open threes and literal 0% on open threes. If KAT's making his open threes they are up 3-0.
