Re: Mock Off-Season: Southwest Division
For Memphis - a rather ho hum offseason....my thoughts... I rather throw more money at a Goga or Jalen Smith than target both Drummond/Precious, I think Goga would choose Memphis over Charlotte, better team and better role. But I don't think Goga gets over 7-9 million from either team... 3rd string centers that cannot even crack their current team's playoff rotation getting the full MLE the next offseason is just not a real thing....same with Jalen doubt he gets the full MLE but he at least has a better chance than Goga. I also don't like that both the two frontcourt players you have chosen for us to sign cannot shoot, I don't think we would do that. I think we go after a Bamba over Drummond if we really want Precious. And if we really want Drummond then I think we target a 4/5 that can shoot some or just keep LaRavia over signing Precious. I don't think we want 3/4 main frontcourt guys that can shoot at all since Clarke is a non shooter.
Plus rather include 2nds and cash to dump Zaire and Rose and keep LaRavia. He started to look like the player we wanted when we drafted him and rather actually pay the cost to dump them than use LaRavia as the incentive.

Re: Mock Off-Season: Southwest Division
I’d like to see San Antonio go get a legit PG. Garland is pretty obvious but even Tyus Jones. Overpaying CP or Lowery for a year even makes some sense. Get a floor general for Wemby who is better than Tre Jones or a rookie.

Re: Mock Off-Season: Southwest Division
Really would prefer Dallas resign Jones Jr and use a 2nd or something to clear either THJ's or Green's salary to have the money. Makes much more sense than Wiggins

If Daoneandonly agree on something that’s probably about right. We’re fire and ice over here.

Re: Mock Off-Season: Southwest Division
I know I ran with the THJ/Maxi for Wiggins theme for a long time. But DJJ is playing that role really well and will hopefully be 10-14 million dollars a year cheaper (or he probably won’t be in Dallas)
I would do this if Dallas had another trade of Green for a rookie contract guard who can create offense lined up. Could need a Powell dump as well to get all the way to the MLE, but that would be the “all in” move that carries this version of Mavs through Kai decline or exit.. having all three of DJJ, Wiggins, PJ with elite rim protection behind them would be fun basketball to watch IMO.
If DJJ signs with the Pistons for 16-20 mil a year, yeah do this trade..

Yea, chemistry matters. I think Dallas should keep the starting 5 intact as much as they are able, unless DJJ goes for something egregious. The only starting 5 tweak I'd want Dallas to make for next season is Lively starting ahead of Gaff, but the latter still getting plenty of minutes
The issue is how the Mavs can free up money to ensure DJJ re-signs. Thats where some craftiness needs to be had and hopefully Dallas can use one of THJ or Green to do it. WIggins is a hard sell because the guy's play seems to fluctuate when a salary increase is within reach, dont really want that on our team.

I hope DAL offseason is much simpler, dump THJ, MLE on DJJ, BAE on a bench shooter (Beasly or McBuckets)...
Defense wins draft lotteries!

I think Beasley is a pipe dream for the BAE I think he foreshore gets much more then that.
But McBuckets would be nice.
I think Cam Spencer and Antonio Reeves are both very good shooters in this years class as well who can constitute and will shoot the lights out.
Ever since the deadline Dallas not longer dies by the 3 because we play defense now. But it would be nice if we could live by the 3 because a role player can’t miss. Like what Naz Reid did in game 2. I’m sick of our best bench shooter being Josh Green and Dante Exum.

Ye, i wonder what thjs real injury were. Pretty sure they replaced his arms with twigs cause he cant hit **** anymore. And i say that as someone that defended him for a long time and wanted to keep him because his shooting been needed. Wanna bet he now plays tonight and puts up 30?
Issue is that mavs now play defense and if a player cant hold his own he wont play. Thj basicly havent even got a chance brcause hardy got more physical tools and is more dangwrous offensively. Considering how full our roster is I wouldnt expect huge changes

Cam Spencer actually had a good defensive rating this season and a very good defensive box plus minus at UConn this season and Rutgers last season.
And I disagree a bit about Dallas’s defense. Luka isn’t Kawhi Leonard, but his defense has been fantastic because he knows where his help is, funnels his man into to the help, knows the rotations, and plays in the gaps. I think Dallas’s defense has been so exceptional because everyone has the right attitude and the coaching has been on point.

Re: Mock Off-Season: Southwest Division
Still okay with trading for Wiggins. As a stan, I hate giving up Maxi. And just looking at the roster, he still brings things they need and lack otherwise. But with his health and with no guarantees on Jones, I'd make the OP's deal for Dallas.
Not sure what's happened to Timmy, but he's not been right for months now. Maybe its health/confidence and Dallas can bring him back and get 14 points and 38% 3-pt shooting and he can help them get through a regular season, but I think they pretty much have to convert his money to something more dependable.

Memphis will be far more active looking to make winning moves to maximize the next two years as well maintain flexibility.
