MIN-BKLN-UTA

Post#1 » by WinterSoldier » Fri May 31, 2024 10:24 pm

MIN: Markkenan, Sexton
BKLN: KAT
UTA: Simmons, Whitehead, Clowney, 3 1sts from Nets.

MIN: They get a better fit in Lauri and a valuable bench scorer with Sexton in the playoffs.

BKLN: KAT would fit with Claxton and Bridges being able to create his own shot.

UTA: Gets Whitehead and Clowney with picks and the chance to get Flagg or Bailey in next years draft.

It depends on the 1sts. Brooklyn really can't trade many of their own so I assume it is the Phoenix picks. I also think we aren't getting much value for Sexton here. I'd ask to take out Whitehead and Clowney and replace them with a pick or two. I don't get it for Brooklyn for a few reasons:

1. Lauri is a great fit with Claxton, but I don't think Towns is
2. it is sending assets for a guy that doesn't elevate them too much (still may miss the playoffs)
3. they implied they are rebuilding

Nets are rebuilding? Last I heard they aren't interested in trading Bridges.

This is pretty recent and is my reading of his comments, but I think others agree:

Read on Twitter

basically, says he wants to take a 'patient approach' rather than pushing all-in for a star too early. That tells me they don't think a meaningful star will be available via trade in the near future, which pretty much means they need to rebuild.

I want to build a winning mentality and culture that’s sustainable. Those two are very different things. If you just want to be win-now, you could ruin your future by trading away all of your assets. But I think what I want to do with the Brooklyn Nets is take a longer-term approach and build a sustainable, winning culture.

I would rather have Lauri and Collin than KAT, either way it's too expensive. Nets pass

You say it's too expensive, so what would be a reasonable offer the Nets make for Lauri and Collin?

Not sure Sexton is the right fit, they already have Schroder, CamT, and Simmons. They need a bigger upgrade than Sexton on the ball with or without Lauri.

For Lauri entering his walk year I'd give up 2 unprotected PHO picks + PHI27 (I don't think your 3 FRPs is far off, but throwing in Clowney is not something Nets would do, if he were in this year's draft he'd easily go top 10, Whitehead either because his value is probably close to nill anyway). There are a lot of ways to salary match for him so if you want expirings it can go that route or if you want someone like camJ that's an option, but that would be the main guts of the deal I think.

if Utah wants to move off Sexton as part of the deal to dump his 2025 $, the nets can take him and match both players with Simmons. I think the draft comp stays the same though.
