Yeah, this is light compared to any similar past trade I can think of.
And I like Memphis adding more to get their guy. Whether that’s Clingan or Cody or Holland, etc..
Memphis is ready for deep runs and shouldn’t be conservative.

What if there is no guy to get? That is the consensus regarding this draft. Wasting assets to target players that are ranked similarly to what we are going to get at 9 already is a terrible game plan. Reading the room and determining this is not the draft to move up in is not being conservative, it is being realistic.
I would ranked Memphis' preference as follows. 1- trade pick 9 in some kind of win now move for a proven player. 2-stay at nine since a good player will still be there. 3-Trade down and target one of the several later centers that potentially fit better than Clingan. 4- Last would be some kind of trade up in the draft, especially if we have to give up a lightly protected pick. Now if we can move a spot or two using 39/Aldama that would be something we could explore but paying the typical price to move up in this portion of draft is something no team should be doing this year.

If there’s no guy to get, then there’s really no conversation above moving up so that’s a different answer.
But that doesn’t make the OP the right value. It’s light. Just compared to most draft trades I can think of?

If they think Clingan is the guy then add a protected first.
Otherwise, just take the sf they like the most at 9. Two of knecht cwill holland salaun should be there to choose from.

Easy no from Memphis. You can’t get Vince for #9 2024, likely for #3 2024 too.
Sorry, are you saying that Vince wouldn't be traded for the number 3 pick? Or am I getting it wrong?
He’s vastly overrating a mediocre prospect on his favorite team’s roster. Just par for the course here.

I obviously know who Vince Williams is and he isn’t worth the 3rd overall pick in this draft or any other. He’s done nothing yet to pull that kind of value. Even Jokic wasn’t pulling a top 3 pick after year 2. Don’t be out of touch with reality.

Considering what we know about Vince it’s unlikely we add him to any trades this summer. He is under team control for two more years before we extend him as a RFA. To Memphis not sure if we would trade Vince for a top 5 pick in this draft but adding him to #9 would likely make any deal on our end a no go.

I agree with this take because it’s rational. I don’t agree with the idea if Houston called offered the 3 for him straight up that Memphis would turn it down. And really like his game but he is 24 going into next season and only played roughly 40 impressive games in his career thus far.
Memphis is so good at drafting and identifying talent you’d have to think they’d find someone they like more at 3.

Likely yeah we would identify a better long term talent with the pick, but given VWJ age 24 he fits right in line with our core 3 and probably is our best perimeter defender. Vince showing playmaking ability on top of his off ball shooting and rebounding makes him an ideal role player who can play 1-3 for us on a Vet minimum level salary.

Valid points. Still he isn’t pulling the third pick. And maybe Memphis wouldn’t do it either but it’s moot because zero teams would offer a top 3 pick for him.
