Collins and a 2025 first for Demar (say 3yr115-120? Or whatever it takes to outbid Chicago/Detroit? Don’t care if there’s a fourth year really..)

Sure it won’t age well, but it’s cheap, leaves the money for Lauri and will help make the play-in if that’s the goal.. still can aggregate salaries once you renegotiate Lauri to bring in another win now piece..

I think we've proven the play-in is not the goal.

But neither is outright tanking. Demar is a cheap way to make the play-in realistic. Then go spend on a PG and raise the team to fighting for the 6th seed. Then hope for development and Cleveland/Minnesota to blow up.

DeRozan is going to be 35 to start the season, I don't see us using any long-term assets to add him. If we were motivated to do that, why would we have traded Conley or Olynyk for assets? I think the vision is to keep just enough veteran talent around the young players that you avoid a development pathway like Detroit, but the quality of our depth an unexpected emergence of Lauri prevented that our first year.

This would be a fun team for about two years before George ages out and Young inevitably blows up the lockerroom.

Yeah, I agree. But, unless there's someone on the market that we don't know about yet, isn't this what all-in looks like? That's what makes it a bad idea.

Yes, you are absolutely right.

The problem teams are having in Utah's position is there just aren't any all in guys available.
It's probably just Trae maybe at this stage? Could you pry Lamelo out of Charlotte?

Kuzma, Ingram, Grant. They aren't all in guys. Mikal is above them, but not at the #1 level either.

So, with that said. I think going by the OP you need to go hard for Trae whilst also adding Mikal.
Sexton/Yurt7/#29/2025 lowest of UTA-MIN-CLE/2029 2nd highest of UTA-CLE-MIN (1-4 protected) for Mikal/DFS
Collins/Hendricks/#10/2025 2nd lowest of UTA-MIN-CLE/2027 two lowest of UTA/MIN/CLE/LAL (1-4 protected)

So basically:
Sexton and 3 x 1sts for Mikal
Hendricks/#10 and then 3 future firsts for Trae

Sign Obi Toppin to a contract that would make it difficult for the Pacers to match.

Trae/Bridges/Lauri/Toppin/Kessler
George/Clarkson/DFS
Sensabaugh/Lofton Jr/Bazley

Still need some additions, but there are enough picks there to fill in the gaps.
