Kessler was bad last season. Allen was really good, especially in the playoffs before the Wagner brothers splintered his rib.

I like Allen fine but what does he do for Utah. Maybe they are #10 in the WC instead of #11?

Hopefully Ainge/Ryan Smith will realize the only way for the Jazz to make any real headway is to "tank" for the next 2 drafts. Unless Giannis magically wants to come here there's no other logical path to compete with the OKC's and Spurs long term in the WC.

Directionally, it's questionable, but the Jazz are winning on value by a considerable amount. They could turn around and flip Allen at the deadline for a better return than Kessler and that pick will get them now.

The Cavs will have to be dead set on turning Allen into a SF to accept Grant as the SF though. He's like option D which is why, among other reasons, I don't really see this happening before the draft.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Yes I imagine Allen would be another asset to eventually be flipped in this type of scenario. Hell maybe even Lauri is another one who eventually gets flipped himself. I wouldn't put anything past Ainge.

I'd rather just take a flyer on someone at 10 and see how Kessler develops as both these assets have a better chance to actually be on the roster when the Jazz finally acquire/draft/develop their own franchise player.

I by no means thought Allen was the end goal if Utah did this trade. Just a nice upgrade on a small enough contract to not impact Lauri’s extension.

Once you get Lauri locked up, you can go aggressively shopping for a superstar.

I just don’t see the point in keeping Lauri and not getting better. What’s the point of drafting 8th-10th and crossing your fingers for lottery luck?

Get Allen, then get Trae and a defensive wing. Feel like you can go on a run. Or get Murray, make the play-in and still keep all the real high variance firsts but be a fun team to watch…
