You are the GM of the 76ers, what would you do this offseason?

If they're going the straight cap-space plan then DDR + another couple of solid guys seems better.

Just for point of reference, if they were to sign Paul George to the max and let go of Paul Reed, they'd have around 13M remaining in cap space and the 8M room exception to add to the roster. That 13 jumps to 16 if they were to trade their 1st.

Not saying that's a ton to build out the roster, just saying.

considering $13M is essentially the MLE, you're looking at a Luke Kennard, Bruce Brown, Gary Trent Jr, Gary Harris level player as your #4 player. We've seen teams with worse #4s than that get to the finals, but most of them had a big three better than Embiid/PG/Maxey

I'm struggling to think of an example. Maybe 2007 Cavs? But then they came out of a really weak Eastern Conference where the first seed had 53 wins.

2011 Heat were the ones that came to mind right away. With their 4th being either Haslem/broken Mike Miller/Chalmers
investigate Adam Silver

It was actually James Jones

They also had 2 Top 5 players and another Top 20-30 player.

Is Maxey a Top 20-30 player?

Is PG13/LeBron a Top 5 player?

Yes.
Definitely not for PG13.

Who was the 4th best player on the 2020 Lakers? Hell, who was their 3rd best player?

Same question for the Mavs right now?

Additionally, if they were to sign PG as their 3rd guy, they'd have draft capital to make additional moves.

I wonder if they could trade all their future 1sts for Lauri. He’d be so perfect as the third man at a fraction of the max. From there you can get 2 or 3 guys at around the mid level (Gary Trent, Tyus Jones, etc).

Names involved (assuming availability) include but not limited to D'Angelo Russell, Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Anderson, Lonnie Walker, Oubre, Trent, Batum, Horton-Tucker, Drummond. Some combo of the above.

Also there is some appetite to get paid to take bad contracts (LaVine, John Collins).

We all know Morey will take his run at PG and LeBron, and this would be after that.

D'Angelo Russell: He has a 19 Million Option. He would cost > 20 Million AAV
Caldwell-Pope: He is looking at 20 Million AAV
Kyle Anderson: Yup, excellent fit on both sides since you really want a floor-spacing 5
Lonnie Walker: Minimum player who isn't impactful
Kelly Oubre: He had a solid season with Philly but I am still doubtful
Gary Trent Jr: Bit small next to Maxey but a nice 3+[almost]D guard
Nicolas Batum: Minimum or slightly more, still can be a poor-man's Horford
Talen Horton-Tucker: See Lonnie Walker
Andre Drummond: Regular Season minutes eater at the back-up 5 and will start 20+ games

I just don't see how you can say you want 2 of Russell/Pope/Oubre/Trent Jr rather than PG13 or LeBron and I don't see how that's a successful off-season.

As a Piston fan, I've been thinking that this off-season is the wrong one to have a lot of space, and started looking at alternatives to signing FAs, like taking unwanted contracts with appropriate draft compensation

I think you're being a bit kind on some of those player evaluations: the only guy I see on that list that is a lock to be a playoff starter on a contender is KCP. Next most likely on that list is probably Oubre.

Good news for PHI is that Oubre's cap hold is tiny. Bad news is that Oubre may have played himslef inot a contract that's more than PHI can/should pay
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

Some combination of Murray, Collins, Avdija, Ingram, Jalen Smith, Patrick Williams, Marshall, Walker VI, Drummond would be my main targets.

I don’t understand why anyone would mortgage thier future for a guy who only plays 50 to 60 games a year!
