Bucks finally get Williams

Post#1 » by slos » Fri Jun 7, 2024 6:13 am

Milwaukee - Charlotte

Connaughton, Beauchamp, #23 for G. Williams and #42

Why Bucks? They get a player they are targeting for the last couple of seasons without giving up Portis.

Lillard/#33
Green/AJJ
Middleton/Williams
Giannis/Livingston/#42
Lopez/Portis

Why Charlotte? They cash in G. Williams with a late 1st and a look in a former late 1st.

I don’t think GWilliams has this kind of value to return a solid rotation player and a move up into the first.

The Bucks are about as win now as you can get so you can probably justify somewhat of an overpay if that’s what it takes, but I don’t think Grant fits that rotation well. He’s not a wing. People want to put him there because he’s short but he’s really a true PF. He’s better offer defending 4s and 5s. Having him try to fit his minutes around Giannis/Looez/Portis is going to force him to defend perimeter SFs a lot and he’ll struggle.

He fits MIL well, IMO, if they swap one of Portis/Lopez for a wing and then want to backfill the front court with a deal like this (and more Giannis at the 5 backing up whoever of that duo is left).

Milwaukee can aggregate?

I don’t know if they’re over the second apron or not but I do not see how they can’t be?

Grant is not worth this anyways.

Aggregating hard caps then at the second apron, and this deal would put them over the second apron because of the opened roster spot and associated minimum roster charge, I believe.

However, by salary matching at over 100%, this deal would also hard cap Milwaukee at the first apron, at which they’d be more than $10m over, so they can’t legally make this trade.

Don't like this for MIL. That package should fetch more than Grant Williams.

If there's a target we like at #23, then sure. But I suspect the front office declines this. Grant gave us almost equal production PJ was giving us prior to the trade (which admittedly was not close to what PJ is giving Dallas, but that's not the point). He looks like a pretty seamless fit for if our roster is ever healthy.

Grant for Pat is about right, but Bucks are set in frontcourt, so they'd prefer Pat probably.
Grant did kill them that one time.

I'm slightly open to Grant Williams but not at the cost of a first round pick. Would rather just roll with whoever we can pick with it.
