Bulls/Mavs center swap

Post#1 » by Texas Chuck » Sun Jun 9, 2024 4:29 pm

Gafford
Powell

for

Vucevic
25 POR 1st (top 14 through 28, then 28 POR 2nd)

Bulls get a rim protecting, rim running center to replace Vuc at the cost of that Portland 1st
Mavs get a different look to pair with Lively and hope that eventually that Blazers pick becomes a minor asset.

I don’t get this for Dallas. Gafford has been awesome and fits like a glove. Why move him? Also, I don’t know if you’re legally allowed to trade Powell at this point.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Vuc would give us more problems than solutions... this would happen... however I would be interested in something with the Magic between Gafford and WCJ

I think this is less value than what Dallas paid for Gafford. I know he has one less year under contract, but the league has seen he can impact wins.

dallas shouldn't be downgrading to a worse player, chicago shouldn't be paying asset to stay in the play in. subbing vuc for gafford isn't going to make a difference for them in the standings.

Okay put this one in the bin.

I do still think there is merit to saying Lively needs to play starter's minutes and let's recoup some value out of Gafford, but yeah this clearly isn't it all.

Does Chicago pay anything to turn Vuc into Nance? into Jaylin?

Some three team deal? Maybe they need to dump some salary to keep Demar and Patrick? Maybe they want to use the MLE and then give Drummond a bigger role?

Even if Gafford would be willing to return to CHI, I still don't know. Vucevic could get the ball from Luka and Kyrie if he's there and hit wide open shots more than 3 feet from the basket. So they're giving up defense for offense, it depends on what the Mavs think they need to get farther.

I doubt the Bulls want Gafford back mainly because he doesn't shoot the ball, is not stretch threat. Which would be fine if the Bulls have 4 shooters on the floor with him. Lavine on his way out, mid range DeRozan should be going. Coby White yeah, Dosunmu not a big number shooter Patrick William starting would need to more than double the number of shots he takes and who at the PF?

I think you still get value out of Gafford playing backup minutes. I wouldn’t try to swap Gafford out as a role player for another guy who would be a role player in the same spot. If Gafford is part of a bigger deal or series of deals that’s netting a bigger piece than sure, but I don’t like the one for one swaps with him (in terms of on court pieces, I know you have a pick here too).
