Charlotte take 5

Post#1 » by Colbinii » Wed Jun 12, 2024 2:01 pm

Charlotte Out: Davis Bertans, Vasilije Micic, Nick Richards, #42
Charlotte In: John Collins, #29

New York Out: Bojan Bogdanovic
New York In: Jordan Clarkson, Nick Richards [Absorbed in R.J. Barrett TPE]

Utah Out: John Collins, Jordan Clarkson, #29
Utah In: Bojan Bogdanovic, Davis Bertans, Vasilije Micic, #42

Charlotte get's a "Overpaid player + Asset" for their useless expiring contract(s) + Micic. Collins fits well, better than someone like C.J. McCollum, can play the 4 or 5 and is (in theory) a good fit with Ball. They also pick up a late 1st in a relatively deep draft.

New York turns the expiring Bojan into a shot maker in Clarkson and a 3rd-string Center in Richards. Clarkson helps fill a void of bench scoring and shot creation for a team looking to go deeper into the post-season.

Utah "dumps" Collins for expirings who seem to fit better on paper. Bojan can help the development of the younger players as a lower-usage big who spaces the floor while Micic gives their bench stability. Both these players seem like "Will Hardy" archetypical players as players who look to get off the ball quickly.

I would want to keep Micic here so we have a good passer on the floor at all times. Sending out Micic, we're a turned ankle away from (yet another) stretch of games with a bunch of players that need to be set up for their baskets, without the setup man. That only gets amplified with Collins. Send Martin's expiring to Utah.

Martin also works as Utah just retains Dunn. Utah could also go something like Carrington in the draft.

I agree, I like this trade but if the Hornets gave up Micic without another answer at PG it hurts more than it helps. Maybe if Reed dropped to 6 it could work out though. Would kinda be perfect if Topic was there at 6 but his knee sounds like it's going to possibly have him missing next season.

How?

I also think the Knicks like McBride enough to not bring in the more expensive, worse shooting Clarkson to take his role. I'd pass regardless as the Knicks.

But not sure how they know IH is staying when he hasn't been able to hear other teams' pitches yet.

Hartenstein is either willing to take the Knicks offer or he isn't.

I think other teams' offers are going to be quite relevant to him. I don't think its as simple as taking the most the Knicks can pay or rejecting it out of hand prior to seeing what else is out there.

He'll have a very good understanding of what's available, even though no communications will have occurred with other teams.

I don't really get it for Utah. They trade down just to dump the extra year of Collins+Clarkson? Ainge already jettisoned Bogdanovic a few years ago. If some team wants Collins or Clarkson I don't imagine it would be that expensive outside of matching salaries but I doubt Ainge trades off a FRP to do it at this point.
