You don’t get what you want, you get what you need

Post#1 » by AingesBurner » Sun Jun 16, 2024 7:41 pm

Utah out: John Collins, #29, #32, and a future 2nd
Utah in: Hachimura, JHS, Merrill, KBD

LA out: Hachimura, JHS, rights to swap with 17, and future swap top 3 protected
LA in: Allen

Cleveland out: Garland, Allen, and Merrill
Cleveland in: Cam Johnson, Collins, #29, #32, Lakers swaps, and a 27 PHX 1st

Brooklyn out: Cam Johnson, KBD, and a PHX 1st
Brooklyn in: Garland

Why for Utah: Turn Collins into lesser pieces

Why for LA: They need a C desperately

Why for Cleveland: They need a starting SF, Collins will fit in with Mobley, and they recoup assets to make another trade for improvement

Why for Brooklyn: PGOTF

Yeah but... this isn't what Cleveland needs.

They need better fitting pieces at a low cost while gaining assets.

This has no chance from Cleveland's end. It's not fixable either. The team we have after the trade is significantly worse than the one we have now, which is just not something the front office is going to do.

Cam Johnson and Collins can't play a lick of defense between the two of them and they're both on large contracts.

The Pelicans really want Allen, so even if the Cavs relent and trade him, they'll get a much better offer from them.

The Jazz don't need to be in this trade and would get cut out.

As far as Garland, if he pushes hard enough, I suspect the Cavs will trade him, and there could certainly be a conversation with the Nets, but this ain't it.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

No, they need to get better. Trading away Allen and Garland and getting significantly lesser players isn't going to cut it. You need to legitimately improve the team. This doesn't do that.

I don't get this for the Cavs at all.
Personally I would prefer Allen over Collins/#32/Lakers Swaps. And that's not really close.
Then I wouldn't entertain any aspect of Garland for Cam Johnson/#29/'27 PHX 1st.

Think Utah is sucking the value here, depending on if you think JHS is just a throw in or if he is a young player that you can see might have a future.

Absolutely horrendous for Cleveland, like holy ****. Why are they giving up 2 All Stars for a solid starter, a way over payed Collins, and only getting 2 garbage picks, some okay swaps, and 1 solid pick?

Just not fixable for Cleveland.

Swap out Collins for Markkanen, and the deal makes a lot more sense for Cleveland. To get in front of the rebuttals, that's just how off the deal is.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Yeah, count me as another non Cavs fan that says things quite horrible value for Cleveland. Add in that Mitchell reportedly wants Allen back, and it might even cause Cleveland a ton more issues, too.
