What would that cost, though?

I'd rather trade Ivey for Reid than the #5 for Reid fwiw, just not sure that's a fit for Minny.

Maybe Ivey, Duren and a pick. Would maybe need a third team though.

I'm not against the Cade/KAT pairing. It just depends on what we'd actually be giving up. I don't think Minny would want Duren, so, yeah, would need a third team. Not sure what all that looks like.

I'd certainly do Ivey, Duren, and our '29 pick for KAT, though.

That's a very low offer, specially for a contender. Maybe a third team would give enough value back, but I doubt you can make this trade without Cade. And even then Minny would have to love Cade way more then I do.

Detroit would never do Cade for Kat, so it’s a non-issue.

I admire Kalamazoo317's persistence in this thread to not just follow the crowd. He obviously believes in what he is saying.

While it's not a perfect comparison, I see a little similarity to the Jrue Holiday trade from 2013. Holiday was a talented young player but he seemed to have a capped upside at some point. That was also a draft that had question marks so valuations were scattered across the board as to the value of a pick. (Note: While Holiday was an all-star in his last year in Philadelphia before the trade, he never had a scoring rate per-36 or per-100 in Philadelphia higher than the scoring rate Naz Reid has had in any year in Minnesota.)

Klomp made an important point on the Wolves board that applies to Naz and many other players like him, so I wanted to share.

If we set aside all of MIN’s attachment to Naz and look at this with the dispassionate eye of a GM, Naz is likely just an expiring .. for MIN. While next year’s play is valuable, he will likely opt out of his 2025 salary, and the Wolves may be unwilling to use his Bird rights to match one of the many higher offers he would receive in free agency.

However, Naz’ Bird rights are quite valuable to any team who can afford to pay him! If that team is over the cap, they are limited to their MLE, which won’t be enough. And even for teams that want to get better and have cap space, other players of Naz level often don’t make it to free agency any more. If a team isn’t a free agent destination, they might have cap space to “spend” and nothing better to buy.

On a macro level, maybe we could define which teams are in each group here, to find natural trade partners?

Which teams
1. Want to get better
2. Are over the salary cap
3. Are willing to add payroll in 2025

Which teams
1. Have players that are expiring, or can opt out for free agency
2. Are unlikely to be able to afford to pay them and use those Bird rights

I really like the idea of Austin Reeves for Naz Reid.
