Dumbest move Trajan could have made. Puts all the pressure on him. Should have kept Monte for at least a year, it gives him a year of no responsibility while he settles in.

Did they release how long his deal is? If he got five years it’s not so bad. If he got four years that means three before he is a lame duck. That’s a whole different calculation for him.

This was a bad decision. Considering how much money & time left on Monte's contract this was incredibly poor timing & foresight.

The money is a sunk cost. Once a coach has lost both the FO and the locker room, there's no coming back.

As others have said, the mistake was made when the owner (Gores) did not let GM Troy Weaver move on from Monty, but insisted on upping the offer until a reluctant Monty couldn't say no to the Brinks truck in his driveway.

If there's irreparable damage, then I understand the rational. However, NO's fans were also saying Green lost the team in a 49 win season.

Unless the players absolutely hate Monte, I think the best course of action would have been to have an evaluation year. Reload next season with a better pick in a better draft, while giving Monte a chance to show he's the same coach that had Suns #1 in the West.

He had a terrible season but he's a proven coach, which means there's potential for a bounce back year with some adjustments.

Pretty sure everyone in the organization hated Monty's coaching, Gores being at the top of the list.

Players like Cade Cunningham could be seen visually frustrated with Williams’ decision making throughout the course of the season... Multiple sources had indicated that Williams seriously rubbed key members of the Pistons roster the wrong way during his time in Detroit.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hire so destined to fail. He didn’t want the job. They wouldn’t accept no for an answer and kept upping the offer. Williams wife was dealing with a cancer diagnosis at the time. Monty made bank but I hope this doesn’t cost him another opportunity to coach.

Great move! Yes, it is a lot of money, but you can't change the culture of a team without changing the coach.

Wasn't Monte supposed to be that guy?
