SGA and JW dominate the ball as playmakers and Giddey plays the connector role but in the playoffs I don’t think it will work at all. Can’t have Dort and Giddey on the court as they don’t create their own shots. Also think Giddey is way better than what he’s showing due to rotations and role. He should be first sub out and run the 2nd unit as lead handler.

Giddey is obvious dude to be shipped out for shotmaker.

Giddey + Bertans and at least Jazz 1st returned for Markkanen + Olynyk is obvious trade everyone knows about. Markkanen fits age, play style and positional need. Risk that he doesn’t have RFA status and can’t be extended (salary requirements). But it would round out OKC roster perfectly.

Then the next decision by Presti is who is next disgruntled superstar and does he want to push his chip leader stacks into the middle.

Lauri is worth more than that!

No way Ainge trades Lauri away. He will build something great next to Lauri. He has 3 pieces in Lauri George and Kessler. He needs 3 more and he has the assets and patience to do it.

Ainge can be patient all he wants. Doesn’t mean the superstar he covets will say yes to Utah as a free agent or that Ainge will have assets for best offer in trade. People forget how unicorn acquiring a disgruntled superstar can be. And Utah has even more variables (biggest one being a locked in disgruntled superstar).

Ainge also doesn’t have that great of assets (with Markkanen off the table as you say). Kessler has come back to earth of meh. Hendricks isn’t all world rookie (yet). And his owed draft capital is tied to Cavs and Wolves stubbing their toes in drafts 3+ away (more like 5+ away). We all know he has the quantity to be a top 3 offer, but boy do many things have to align for Ainge to patiently wait for a superstar next to Markkanen (assuming Markkanen doesn’t bolt next offseason).

This is the type of 'around the edges' move I would love for OKC to make -

Bertans, Micic, Dieng and MIA 25 FRP for Zach and McDermott.

OKC gets a quality big w/ + passing and a + 3PT shot - the skills Presti seems to covet at all positions + a EC shooter in McD.
SAS cashes in an asset - gets a passer to help Wemby develop, a young shooting big in Dieng and a FRP - maybe some SRP can be added. Maybe Mann and/or Poku if SAS desires.

OKC ends up w/

G - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander / Cason Wallace / Isaiah Joe / Tre Mann
G - Lou Dort / Isaiah Joe / Aaron Wiggins
F - Jalen Williams / Kenrich Williams / Aaron Wiggins
F - Josh Giddey / Doug McDermott / Kenrich Williams / Aleksej Pokusevski
C - Chet Holmgren / Zach Collins / Jaylin Williams / Aleksej Pokusevski

I know it’s not happening but I still really do like Micic, Dort, Bertans, 2 firsts for Rudy. Don’t hate adding Dieng and whatever filler Minnesota needs to.

Similar to DFS.. A maybe realistic one would be PJ for Bertans + assets? Not a huge win now move but I still buy into PJ probably more than I should.. Also if Dallas goes shopping for a Raptor, maybe can take Grant Williams for a small asset to help Dallas..

Tonight’s win against the Dubs proves my point above… Giddey was on the bench all of crunch time.

I don’t hate that deal. I would need a 3rd team for Bertans/picks and get Wolves something they can use to help stay win-now. Probably a PGOF type.

Yeah, I went both ways with needing a third team or with Minn just taking the youth assets avoiding the tax for a few years with two stars and some really good-great roleplayers around them.

just don’t think Minnesota trades Rudy for anything reasonable with how the stars are playing together.

But I still really like OKC trading for Rudy and only having to make a decision in 2 full years about paying tax or trading Rudy (or Giddey) at that point.

Rudy would clog the paint too much. Even though he would obviously add a ton defensively and fix rebounding issues.

use Giddey + draft assets to acquire Mikal, Claxton, DFS. use 1 more pick to acquire Caruso.

superstar - SGA
secondary star - Bridges
future stars - Jalen & Chet
interior defender - Claxton
great rotation players - Caruso, Dort, DFS
prospects - Wallace, Jaylin

that team is a contender this year with high upside + great depth.

SGA - Bridges - Jalen - Chet - Claxton - Caruso - Dort - DFS - (+ Wallace & Jaylin).

probably the best 8/9 man rotation in the league.

Caruso is pretty redundant on this Thunder roster. Obviously you’d go after Mikal if he was available

I guess he wasn't that redundant after all. good call (by me).
