Re: The Magic of Jazz with possible Heat added
Sexton has very similar value, strengths, weaknesses as Simons...measurements too (surprising to me). Sexton has a lighter deal but Simons is the more proven elite 3pt shooter, but both are good. Simons is a freak athlete. Sexton is known (coming in at least) to be a fierce competitor - not sure about Simons....both should be in the discussion for ORL and it might be as simple as the deals available that makes one a superior option (and which team is more determined to move their guy).

Didn’t utah go something like 8-32 with Sexton as a starter last year (31-51 overall). Doesn’t that make him (and Lauri) still good-stats/bad-team guys?

As a starter in 51 games he averaged 21/3/6 on 49/42/85 shooting and the more I reflect on his season the more I want to keep him. That said, I think this is an entirely reasonable offer for the kind of production he gives.
didn't he already breakout in 2020 when he averaged 24.3/3/4 on 48/37/82?
but Cleveland went 22-50. its the age old question, was he a really good player or just putting up stats on a bad team

I don't think simplifications like that are super useful. Was Devin Booker a good stats bad team guy? How do we explain the Suns first year in the playoffs with him? Etc. I think there are cases where you acn argue a guy's stats are inflated, but probably not when they are a 60 percent true shooting guy.

I really do want to say yes to this, but two 1sts for Collin Sexton, even if they end up being 18 and like 25 next year feels just a tiny bit too rich?
It's very close though. And I'm fully on board moving on from Cole Anthony as I really don't care for his game.

Diversity of opinion is fine. I get that people are still going to be skeptical about Sexton's resurgence, but there's always plenty of nuance.
The Jazz started 7-16 with him on the bench, went on a 15-4 run when he entered the starting lineup, stumbled back to a .500 record with a 4-6 string approaching the deadline, and then did the tankiest tank job I've ever seen the rest of the way at 5-26. Folks can judge that however they want, I guess.
