Grizzlies/Pelicans
Looking at a few trade scenarios involving Memphis/NOP and maybe Houston. Assumption Ingram resigns where traded.
First option:
Memphis trades Smart/Kennard
NOP trades Ingram
Memphis gets a SF/PF to partner with Bane/JJJ/Morant. Memphis has enough defense to cover for Ingram.
NOP gets a PG with experience and size to run with McCollum, Williamson, et al.
Second option:
Memphis trades Smart/Kennard
Memphis receives Ingram
Again Memphis gets the SF they need.
Houston trades FVV/Sengun
Houston gets Smart/#21
Smart adds defense and lower cost. Adds an experienced 2G. Hpouston's defense moves to the elite status with Smart/Brooks/Smith. A pick is added at the back side of the first round which could be a big (Ware/Edey/Missi) or a PG for the future in Carrington. The #3 could be Shepherd/Buzelis/Castle/Clingan. McCollum could be moved further
Pelicans trade Ingram/McCollum
Pelicans receive Sengun/FVV/Kennard
Pelis get a center in Sengun, a PG is FVV. They plan on watching Ingram leave by not paying him, so the cost of Sengun/FVV become a player they do not want and #21. McCollum is simply replaced.

Re: Grizzlies/Pelicans
I think you need to send Smart to a team that needs him like the Hornets and then have them send value. The Pelicans have Herb Jones and Daniels.
The money is way off on the Rockets trade.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

That had been my initial reaction. Then I thought about re-routing Ingram and got less negative..

On what planet is Smart and the #21 worth Sengun?

We not paying Ingram 50 million and he is a bad fit with the Grizz. Needs the ball, doesn't defend and isn't physical enough.

Still has more value than Smart and Kennard, by a lot...

You wouldnt do the deal "Bro"... Memphis GM would do it and drink a bottle of his finest whiskey after that.

If you compare the lists of players who can effectively defend Smart and Sengun, it would help ease your pain.

I said what I said and Zach wouldn't because of the financial repercussions and basketball fit.

Those things only matter if value is close. If its not you take the deal and improve on it later.
Trae Young is bad fit on Pelicans if CJ stays in backcourt. I would still take him if value going out is as bad as in this deal for the Grizzlies...

We view ourselves as contenders, as contenders we prefer to have ideal role players to complement our big 3. Also with the emergence of some our young players like GG who is signed for 6 million the next 3 years we prefer to give him those shots not taken by Ja, Des and Jaren.
