DEN/GSW/DAL Combining ideas from the Mavs offseason thread

Post#1 » by BeiBeau » Sun Jun 23, 2024 7:04 pm

Combining a couple ideas from the Mavs offseason thread.

DEN Trades: Zeke Nnaji / #28
DEN Receives: Dante Exum / Dwight Powell

GSW Trades: Andrew Wiggins
GSW Receives: THJ / Maxi Kleber / #28

Dallas Receives: Andrew Wiggins / Zeke Nnaji
Dallas Trades: THJ / Kleber / Exum / Powell

Why Den: Free up long term money and rid themselves of the Nnaji contract mistake while adding Exum who would for sure play in the playoffs for them.

Why GSW: Get financial flexibility at the end of next season and pick up a 1st.

Why Dallas: Dallas buys into a Wiggins bounce back to upgrade their shooting and maintain their defense. Add Wiggins without giving up any of their limited picks.

I think thi sis illegal for dallas

You have <3 mil apron space left. Denver trade hardcaps you at 1st apron.

Net coming in is about 35M, net going out is about 34.3M. This leaves Dallas at 11 man under contract and not enough room to fill out the rest of roster

Is not illegal they’d just have to dump money else where.

I am a fan of adding Wiggins, but for it to make sense, we would have to give up re-signing Jones. And it probably would make more sense with Green instead of Kleber after his new contract comes in if there is not a poison pill issue.

Don't like Denver trading a first round pick and having Powell stuck on the team for the next two years. I'd rather bet on Nnaji improving.

I think it's fair value to pay a late 1st to dump 30/4 year contract for 10 MPG RS player, I don't think a contender should be the one receiving that vaule in this cap environment.
Exum, despite his PO woes, played more in RS and in the PO...
I'd do the Wiggins deal, replace #28 with TOR 25 2nd, they are close in value IMO.

I think you’re right. Even if we have to do the 25 1st to get the deal done I think Wiggins is worth it because of the POA defense and the outside shooting. What’s the difference between our 2025 1st and the raptors 2025 second? I’d bet a good chunk of money on less that 10 spots.

As a part of this deal Dallas should send out Dwight Powell plus a 2nd(not the Tor 2nd) any minimum contract. That way Dallas is sending out more guaranteed money then they are receiving so that they do not hard cap themselves. Doing that would give them access to the TMLE to fill out the roster.

If GS likes Josh Green, Green and THJ also works but would give a 1st or the Tor 2nd with that package.

I would do it of course. Powell would have been Nuggets best backup C since Plumlee (and short stint of Boogie). He was starter for Dallas last year. Not good for that role. Both Gafford, Lively >>>> Powell, but it doesn't change the fact Powell >>>> Nnaji, DJ. His role would have been to play 15 minutes in regular season to keep Jok/AG fresh for playoffs. We don't need him for the playoffs, there AG will be our backup C.

Exum is replacement for Jackson. Reggie was very good before all star break and very bad since. Exum has less ups and downs. He won't hurt your team. I would trade Jackson and 1/2 seconds into some teams cap space after this trade. With this trades Nuggets would send 14.1 mil (+2.4 first round pick) and get back 7.1 mil. They could use that money to sign 2 vet min players (I would go after one more backup PG and big), give KCP up to 30% rise (starting salary around 19.1 mil) and stay under 2nd apron.

I don’t think Wiggins holds the value to get Dallas to take on 24 mil (or whatever?) or Nnaji.

Dump Lawson on a third team and get 28th, send GSW a 2nd..
