So I guess the plan is to sit Deni and the Vets down the stretch for a few years to tank. Wasting these cheap Deni years.

I don't think the Blazers win 33 games unless Scoot or Sharpe really break out.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

I would like this more for the BLAZERS if they now change Grant and recover at least one FRP + Expire and get out of Ayton..

I like this for both teams.

Deni isn’t stopping a team from tanking. Clearly. But Portland now has Clingan/Camara/Sharpe/Scoot. They probably think the 2025 draft pick and Deni will finish their rebuild? Obviously depends on development, but it’s a nice core. Especially, if you can add some future draft capital for some of the vets.

Washington - I do love trading Deni as they likely have 2 more years of real rebuilding. But I don’t love the value here really. I think the “second best” part would have been a deal killer to me. It’s still good enough and hopefully Kuzma is traded to Sac tomorrow. Embrace the bottom this season and add culture vets next year.

As a Dallas fan.. I would have been really happy if Deni was the last piece and it cost every asset they had. And I’d have liked that more for Washington.

Portland is the master of sitting players once March starts. I would really, really hope that trend continues in the Flagg year. If does not, I will scream.

Did you think Avdija was worth 2 FRPs? Or that Wiz were looking to trade him?

I think the wiz got fair value but surprised they traded him on that contract at his age.

I did not think they were looking to trade him, but I posted over and over that I thought they should. He was a good asset on that contract, but his game is complementary so he doesn't do much for a bad team lacking any kind of star. Instead of wasting his good contract on terrible teams I thought they should trade him. I took so much vitriol for that position and for having a valuation much closer to what he returned than what some others thought.

But the value part is whatever. I get people get excited and carried away. That happens. But directionally this was the smart move, always was. So while fans are sad today, I think once the emotion clears they will be happy that their team got value now instead of waiting 2 years and getting far less.

The Idea the Portland Trailblazers are going to be winning games by adding Deni Avdija, when the Wizards couldn't win jack-diddly with him, is really missing the sheer depth and talent the league has.

Portland is still a 25-win team.

I think the Blazers will be a 35 win team that if everything goes just right, could win 40 games. Still a lottery team but not the ugly mess they have been. It will depend on how well Scoot and Shaedon Sharpe play

I see them as clearly worse than Houston last year, a 40-win team.

100%. They don't have anyone who's capable of being a first (or frankly even a second) option on a decent team unless Scoot or Sharpe make a big leap. Simons and Grant are both solid 3rd/4th option types but neither is capable of carrying an offense. Avdija is more of a connective player than a scorer.

I dont hate it, but i dont understand it either. Deni doesnt seem like a guy with a high ceiling and the best thing about him as an asset is his contract, but that will probably expire before the Blazers are competitive. I think the value is fine, just dont like the direction for the Blazers. Deni isnt going to make them a play in team, not even close.

Its just a strange rebuild for the Blazers. They held on to RW and Malcolm Brogdon when they shouldve traded them immediately. They re-signed Grant on a massive contract for no reason. Still have Simons they havent traded. Took on Ayton and his contract, which isnt really a big issue on its own but now they're paying all these guys, arent competitive and apparently they sit their highest paid players to tank.

Honestly, Blazers are getting interesting, Clingan has potencial, Scoot can't get any worse than his rookie season, Sharpe should keep developing. They might make the playoffs, but are setting up nice.

Deni and Clingan added to this roster should change massively the defensive impact

I have this good value for Washington, and dumb directionally for Portland. Put me down as Washington won big.

Fan of Deni as a player, but I think price is a little high.
Especially for someone like Portland, who isn't really one move away.
Are they even a playoff team?

I would have liked the value more for a team like Milwaukee, Dallas, Sacramento...

Give this as a win for Washington, who probably flips Brogdon for at least 2-3 2nds along with the 2 firsts and 2nds.

I am excited to see a full season of Deni being the secondary creator. I expect him to put up around 20 / 8 / 4. with + defense.

Could see higher assist numbers too IMO.

The shooting is where I am not willing to wager any bets - sample size is too small. Albeit I am a believer that he truly found his footing last season and should continue to play at his post ASB level.
