That's not credible. The only reason to trade Brooklyn's picks for the Suns picks is to chase someone on the Suns roster. Otherwise, that trade is really bad for the Rockets.

Not true. It also gives Houston an ability to be a 3rd team and suck value.

The odds of the Nets being better than the Suns this year and next are very, very low. You don't downgrade assets like that for the opportunity to be a theoretical 3rd team.

I disagree. I think this trade took place with the understanding the Nets WOULDN'T tank if they had their picks.

Agreed. I think it's unlikely the Nets go full tank without knowing this deal was lined up.

I'm skeptical that the Nets were good enough for it to matter even with Bridges.

Not like they had a choice. The 3rd pick Houston is dangling, is the Nets pick.

Nets did this so they could trade Bridges to the Knicks for 6 picks. Came out on top with their draft control back & 4 additional picks.

Only reason Houston would do this is to leverage the Suns.

Am I completely missing something or is PHX hard capped and thus can only move a player 1/1?

These combos have been popping up on other threads and the cap gurus have basically said that hard capped teams cannot take back aggregated players for one player in a trade. Period.

To do this with either Durant or Booker as the target, Houston would either have to have a salary to match one of them, or somehow opening a third team that has one and PHX would have to be willing to take that player not just the picks.

As far as what Durant to Houston would look like, I doubt the Rockets would offer more than Brooks, salary filler and the Suns picks.

If the Suns REALLY want to trade him, I think they'll look at the teams with salary cap space first, as they should.
Teams like the 76ers, Magic and Thunder can outbid Houston easily with players, picks and a huge TPE.
It could get them out of the luxury tax and the apron.

I *think* they have it backwards - i.e., an apron team can trade 1-for-3 but not 3-for-1 (as long as the total incoming salary is <100%)

Phoenix can't aggregate salaries, but they can receive aggregated salaries. There are not limits on the number of players. Phoenix could, theoretically, trade KD and Nurkic and bring back $60M in salary. $45M counting against KD and $15M counting against Nurkic. What Phoenix couldn't do is trade Little and Allen for Lauri because Lauri makes more than either player and Phoenix can't aggregate.

I mean that’s just not something the Suns would consider even if they wanted to get off of Durant. Sometimes I think this board is so in the weeds that they forget winning is the point.

My guess is a deal that helps keep this team competitive and now for the future. I would guess this deal:

Rockets Get:
Durant
Nurkic

Suns Get:
Tari Eason
FVV
Sequin
Suns Picks Back
3
Assets from Dillon Brooks from a third team.

Third Team
Brooks
