Yes, absolutely. As it stands, I don't see a universe, where a 14 win team can start the 5th pick in the draft, next to another 5th pick.

Cade
Ivey
Ausar
Holland
Duren

Would be a trainwreck unseen by human eyes before. Teams already double/triple team Cade, that lineup would be hilarious to watch. Teams could double Cade on the opposite baseline.

I'm open to any trades, not involving Cade, but they have to bring back shooters, real ones. Kispert would be perfect. Size, and shooting. Not high on Simons, but you gotta work this roster, and its not gonna be easy.

If I had to guess(no coach so pure speculation)the l
Starters as of now;

Cade
Ivey
Ausar
Stewart
Duren

Kispert would be perfect.

We need someone who can shoot AND DEFEND. Simons is a black hole on defense, so he is a terrible fit next to Cade.

There is far more demand than supply of those guys. Don’t you think you could hide a weak defender with all that d?

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Cade is a bad defender, Duren is a terrible defender, Fontecchio is a bad defender. We have 3 good defenders on the roster, we alread have to hide 7 bad defenders, we don't need another one.

Yes but we need a three or four. We have too many guards.

I think the Pistons need to break up the guard log jam. We have seen in many situations that having too many prospects that do the same thing/play the same position hurts everyone.

Look at Philadelphia with Embiid/Okafor/Noel.

I know this is hard for Pistons fans to swallow - but that backcourt needs addition by subtraction.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Detroit decided to listen to offers on Cade before paying him, but I don’t think they end up pulling the trigger. But you’re going to invest in Cade long term you need to build a roster that fits around him.

I don’t think you can roll forward with all 4 of Duran, Holland, Thompson and Ivey on the roster. I get wanting to take another year to see which guy develops a passable jump shot.

I’m very much in favor of brining in Tobias Harris on a short term deal to provide floor spacing and veteran leadership. Maybe Grimes steps into the starting lineup as well. Could also see this being a Klay Thompson team.

Cade/Grimes/Thompson/Harris/Duran
Sasser/Ivey/Fontecio/Holland/Stewart

Still feels like you need to turn one of those non shooters into a high volume perimeter scorer.

In short - part of building a team is putting talent in position to succeed. And we have seen time and time again that when you just accumulate talent irrespective of fit it usually doesn’t work out.

I didn’t realize this. I heard young Bam and Dwight comparisons. Was that just rebounding and no 3s?

There is debate as to how bad he is and if it’s something that can be fixed. I’m in the camp that Duren is super athletic and all of 20 years old, so he should be able to become a good rim protector. That’s also contingent on who the next coach is.

Who are all of these guards you're referring to? It's basically Cade and Ivey plus Sasser and maybe Grimes depending on how he shows next season. Ausar and Holland are forwards primarily. There is no log jam.

He has also shown some glimpses of passing, though less-so under Monty IMO, and there is some hope that he develops a middy, because he has rapidly improved as a free throw shooter.

But yes, the defense is totally theoretical with Duren. You'll see a moment where he does something good but 95% of the time it's very ugly on that end. Just looking lost or disinterested. Like his athleticism somehow only activates on offense.

I should have said guys who can’t shoot or space the floor.
