Lakers-Cavs-Nets

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Sun Jul 21, 2024 3:18 am

Lakers get Allen, DFS
Lakers give DLo, Vando, Vincent, LAL29FRP, LAL28swap

Lakers save $5.5m so they can use TaxMLE to get a guard.

Cavs get CamJ, Sharpe
Cavs give Allen, Jerome

Cavs get a starting PF so that Mobley can move to C, they get a backup C too so they don't lose much size overall.

Nets get DLo, Vando, Vincent, LAL29FRP, LAL28swap
Nets give CamJ, DFS, Sharpe

Nets get an unprotected FRP and swap for last of their veteran player assets.

I'm not high on Cam Johnson so this would be a pass for me. The Cavs can't start him with a Mitchell/Garland in the playoffs so this is downgrading a starter in order to improve the bench.

Also, from a value standpoint the Cavs are sending out the most valuable player, taking back more salary, and the Nets are walking away with all the draft capital.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Cavs say no, would need to send Niang to the Lakers and Wood and the swap to the Cavs. Lakers also would likely need to send Rui + filler instead of Vincent. Lakers save 3 million

Lakers - Russell, Rui, Vanderbilt, Wood, 1st, and 1st swap
Lakers - Allen, DFS, Niang, Jerome

Cleveland - Allen, Jerome, and Niang
Cleveland - Johnson, Sharpe, Wood, and 1st swap

Nets - DFS, Cam Johnson, and Sharpe
Nets - Rui, Russell, Vanderbilt, and 1st

Cavs getting screwed. Giving up the best asset and getting 0 in return? Why would they do this?

Cleveland declines. Cam just isn't enough for the Cavs. I would consider something around Rui/Cam for Allen. Rui can start at the 4 and Cam could start at the 3 or come off the bench. The Cavs can then slide Mobley to the 5 and have a realistic 5-out offense.

The Cavs would send Allen to LA and LeVert to Brooklyn. The Lakers send a lightly protected 2029 first to Brooklyn, maybe top-5 in 2029, top-3 in 2030 and 2031, then unprotected.

I’d make sure Niang is sent out as well in this scenario with Wood coming back even just for salary matching purposes. Or send Cavs Knecht with Niang going out and they keep the first.

Yeah, as a Cavs fan I would expect Cleveland to fight like hell to keep LeVert and send Niang instead. Maybe Brooklyn is ok eating an extra year of Niang to get that LA first.

When did the going rate of good, but not great role players go to unprotected FRPs?

Bad for Brooklyn. We're not taking on Vanderbilt's long term money, not even Vincent, and the value return is light.
