Come on now, he will be ranked somewhere around 225 in salary. Some people moan about every thing. :-?

yeah, I don't even think he's good, but a 1-year deal that's twice the veteran minimum is basically never a bad contract unless he's actively sabotaging your team when he plays. I'd have taken him at that price for Charlotte, just to have an extra option at backup C for...
1) the event that Mark Williams gets hurt again and we're not relying on a D-Leaguer to give us 20-30 minutes at C, and
2) the games where Nick Richards completely forgets he's playing basketball

I think we still have the room exception at our disposal and it's kinda dumb we didn't try to upgrade that position.

I would happily send Ayton or RWIII from Portland for little more than filler (maybe cough up some second round draft picks if you're feeling nice?), but the Knicks can't aggregate salaries.

(Also it's not very sporting of me to share my true feelings about Ayton elsewhere while hoping to pawn him off on the Knicks.)

…why would the Knicks trade their 2nd option for a backup center?

I really don’t like Precious as a big minute piece. But this is good for NYK.

They tried to find the strong backup center they actually need now and failed, so they lock one up that they can trade in a few months when there are likely more options, probably more sellers.

I’d still use taxMLE on a big here though.

Achiuwa’s qualifying offer, that NY declined to offer, was around $6.25m for one year. He basically signed his QO, though he was truly unrestricted. I’d imagine he had no other offers above the vet minimum elsewhere? And that Ny signed him to be usable for 15-20 minutes a night until he’s able to be aggregated for a needed piece?
