Yeah so you sit and wait on the rookie contract, that what figure it out means. The kid is clearly talented. Why are we salary dumping young talent when it in no way shape or form fixes the cap issues.

Umm...it does fix some of the issues? Atlanta is right next to the Tax, every dollar counts.

He’s making like 2 million over the minimum he’ll get replaced with.

Exactly.

Atlanta is 15 million from the 1st apron. Don’t count billionaire check books. They’re costing their fans to save themselves money. And doing a bad job of that while theyre at it.

2 million is pennies compared to billions.

They’re only $3m from the first apron when accounting for Risacher’s rookie contract.

Ultimately Atlanta did:
Collins for Gay and Mem 2nd
then:
Gay, Ty Ty, Usman, and Mem 2nd for Patty Mills.

So, in total the value the team got was [Being rid of Collins and]
Swapping: TyTy and Usman (~5m in salary cut immediately by OKC) for Mills [6.8m and cut after the trade deadline]

I'm not sold that is value. I guess it really depends if you think half a season of Patty Mills and paying extra salary to get it and then cut him is value. Given Mills played 202 minutes it is hard to see the value for me...

Or put another way, I think cutting Gay would cost more than a 2nd that came with Gay, so that Atlanta had to take on some salary when dumping Gay with exactly that pick.

they also got two seconds for taking tyty and garuba into the tpe they had fwiw

I usually view neutral as TPE. Using the TPE to eat bad contracts doesn't make it more than a TPE, but then they did dump those contracts again, so the comparisons I see as fair are:
1) As I posted, netting out Gay as cleanly as you can.
2) Include the full Mills salary then as it eats into that origibal Collins TPE space (I know cap can configure that all sorts of ways).

If we go #2, then Atlanta got:
[John Collins raw cap space]
Ate 6.8 in Mills.
2025 Minn 2nd
2028 Hou 2nd

That actually seems cheap to eat 6.8m, no? I'm not sold that isn't negative value. If you think Mills (cut and played only 202minutes( was worth his contract then best case you have 2 2nds (one could be good).

Why draft when you can sell for that sweet sweet cash? Ressler is only worth 11.1 billion.

Didn't know this happened. After a good rookie year salary dumping him given this seems so dumb and it's understandable that he was going to struggle or maybe even not play at all. I wouldn't want to.

This Article, when it came out, hopefully shined light not just on A.J. Griffin but also his dad Adrian Griffin, who was coaching the Milwaukee Bucks last year. But, it didn't. It got no traction. I rarely read about it on this board and someone close to the situation posted about it on Reddit with even more detail than the article provides.

Sad situation all around, no doubt.

The general consensus is he:
Dealt with family issues, mental problems, some locker room troubles with a particular player, health issues, but most importantly never fit Quin and his system.

Looks like it wasn't a steal for Houston after all..

Hawks likely knew something was up and finessed the Rockets..

I don't understand how this trade happened, Rockets paid to get him, did they not know he's not interested in BB? Did the Hawks hide the fact? Or did the Rockets think "we can fix him"?
I doubt we'll ever know, since it was low cost anyway...

He has had rumors swirling around his mental state for a while, biggest reason he fell out of Atlanta's rotation after a promising rookie year. No way the Rockets were not aware that when they made the decision to trade for him but decided to take that risk given the relative low cost. Sometimes you lose a bet even when you are well informed of the risks.

Yeah guessing they knew this was a possibility but figured it's also possible the 44 the pick never plays anyways so rolled the dice

He had a solid rookie season and the Rockets paid a mid round second to get him. Don’t care for the results, but I get why they would do it. He’s barely 21 and he has solid skills. The off the court situation is most of ( if not all) what went wrong.

43rd overall picks don’t usually get you guys that have the potential to be really good 3 and d wings.

Camp hasn't started yet, they manage to give up before starting camp? Doesn't sound right...

He lost a very young nephew, that kind of tragedy cant be dismissed. By all accounts he also has a heart for ministry, so good on him if thats what he decides to do. Wish him all the best
