TOR eyes long-term development rather than trying to win every game. Goga is a suitable replacement for Poeltl on a good contract, and Missi is an interesting, athletic C rookie prospect from Cameroon which Masai loves. They take on Cole A.'s contract, but it's a realtively manageable low number, and he could add an energizing scoring/playmaking pop off the bench. Harris comes in as a veteran expiring contract to make salary matching work, could be bought out/waived afterwards. *Note: this trade would put them at 16 players, so they would need to include another player (Temple or Achbaji) to NOP, or just cut them, to make this trade work.

ORL gets a veteran scoring guard who's an elite off-ball 3 pt. shooter for the playoff stretch. With their well-managed cap sheet, they should be able to manage his inflated contract that becomes an expiring next season. After transitioning to a bench role in NOP, he comes in to ORL ready to serve as a high-level 6th man. CJ replaces Anthony's role at a higher level, and Harris outgoing clears way for more development roles for Jett, Black, and TDS. They give up no picks while shaving off the 3rd year of Anthony's contract. Theis comes in as Goga's replacement, boosting the team chemistry with the German bonds with the Wagner bros.

NOP negiotiates favorable extensions with Ingram (reshapes his game to shoot more 3's) and Murphy, and clear out McCollum's contract before the offseason to make it happen. They cut about 15m in salary next year with CJ/Missi out in place of Poeltl, while gaining Poeltl's starting caliber Center production of setting hard screens, passing from the high post, and protecting the paint on D. Boucher and Fernando come in as expiring salary backups who could play solid depth roles.

Cole Anthony has a guaranteed salary of 13.1m next season... so it's unlikely they would waive him. And the other 2 players you mentioned have team options, so they wouldn't be waived-- their TO would be declined.

Next season, Franz Wagner goes up to 38.7m, KCP at 21.6m, then Isaac goes down to 15m, WCJ at 10.9, Black at 8m, Mo at 11m TO, Jett at 5.5...

it seems like they could fit in Suggs around 25m and McCullom's expiring 30m and be just under the luxury tax. But maybe not.

I don't see CJ as one of the worst contract in the NBA, when you have Zach Lavine, Bradley Beal, Jordan Poole as SG's right off the
top of my head. Now I don't see why ORL would want CJ as a $30 M backup. And in NOP is counting on Poeltl to protect the paint

Isaac gets paid $25M this year to be the backup of the #1 option in Orlando (Banchero). He is also injury prone, and his contract is structured to be an ideal trade bait (declining in future years).

He can be the perfect outgoing salary piece. Then they have flexibility in who else they want to send out, between Cole Anthony, Gary Harris, and Goga

i think magic structured it for long term with injury protection more then ideal trade bait..had room under tax to overpay this season ..and see no way trade him for cj..i do not see them even trading cole and goga,harris for him ..am sure board see cole as neg value but do not think magic do at all at this point..do not think goga or harris are neg value as well and see how they would trade for cj negative contract ..yet you say magic may need to add a first ? were you saying isaac and goga plus a first? thats just crazy talk for cj

The problem with this trade is that Missi and Goga are probably the two best assets once you factor in salary, and they're both going to the Raptors.

Assuming that the Magic were willing to take back CJ, the Raptors would get cut out pretty quickly.

Yeah I think the trade is actually Ingram out of NOP, not CJ. Route him to Cleveland for Darius Garland.

Garland would look SO good in Orlando next to Suggs & Anthony Black. All young too.


Make it something like Isaac, 1st, and someone else like Goga/Cole.

Yea all the focus is on Ingram trades and that makes the most sense from a roster standpoint, but I can see BI lowering his contract demands to secure the money and stick with the group he likes-- and can see the Pels extending him to maintain the asset like they did with Jrue Holiday years ago. Which then they would need to offload McCullom's contract. Could do in the offseason, but then they lose any leverage if teams know they HAVE to trade CJM to make room for Murphy and Ingram's deals.

And sure CJM has an inflated contract, but he was one of the top 3 pt. shooters in attempts and percentage last season. That's valuable to a lit of teams. Contract becomes a moveable expiring next season.
