Don't love it for Minny, either. Just take the swing, see what you have this year, and let Randle walk if it doesn't work out. The Towns trade hinges on whether or not the DET pick conveys, anyway.

A trade involving multiple all-NBA guys, and a quality starting sniper, hinges on a pick that will be late lotto at best? Huh?

For Minnesota. Knicks won that deal on talent hands down.

I still don’t really follow. Unless that pick comes in a historically loaded draft or they find the steal of the draft, it’s unlikely to be as good as either of the players the Wolves acquired.

Randle’s a beast who was on his way to 3 AllNBA appearances in 4 years when he got hurt last season…and DiVincenzo is a starting caliber sniper, whose chippiness will fit minny’s defense very well.

Brunson: So what are you paid to do?

DDV is a great 6th man.

Not a Randle fan.

I agree. Charlotte would be a lot more interesting with an All-NBA player of their own.

I'm not sure why you responded if you were going to ignore the point about the salary involved, which is the only reason MIN is doing the deal in the first place.

My point was that CLT would only be doing this for fit, not for salary impact, and doing the deal would make CLT's finances more challenging going forward. That is going to very negatively affect CLT's interest.

Somehow I doubt we were the only team offering an expiring+ for towns and if it was really just a salary dumb they wouldn’t have wanted an all-NBA guy back alongside a starting caliber sharpshooter :dontknow:

DDV was an excellent starter just last season.

And that’s fine if you’re not a fan of his game, but Randle is still really really good. What do you think the chances of drafting a multiple All-NBA guy are in the late lottery?

Seems to me to say this trade hinges on them successfully getting that longest of longshot outcomes :dontknow:

I think that’s an interesting question!

We’re not likely to find out what other teams were or weren’t offering for Towns, but the backstory leading up to this trade looked like Tim Connelly wasn’t looking to move Towns at all. It sounds like he had been rebuffing KAT offers for months, at least from the Knicks, and it wasn’t until they included DiVincenzo with Randle that he started to consider a trade. And even they weren’t enough to get a yes - it took including that questionable 1st.

One of biggest advantages to this deal from MIN’s standpoint is that Randle is far more productive than just any old expiring, and MIN could help its longterm financial future without giving up on contending this season. Vegas odds of an NBA Championship even slightly improved for MIN after this trade, from 11-to-1 to 10-to-1.

I also think that this trade respects Towns (and Randle and DDV). They were on good playoff teams, and they got sent to good playoff teams. And while Towns clearly embraced Minnesota, if you forced him to say who his #2 choice would be, it would likely be going back home to NY. I think other teams may have been making KAT offers, but sending him to the Knicks seems like the fairest way to reward his loyalty to a franchise that was pretty bad for half his career.

Bentley1225 wrote:In light of deal for KT, I’ll offer this idea for Wolves to further flip Randle for depth/draft picks while Charlotte makes a move to become more relevant this season

To Charlotte
-Julius Randle (1 year, $28.9 million plus P.O.)

To Minnesota
-Grant Williams (3 years, $41 million)
-Cody Martin (2 years, $16.8 million)
-Vasilje Micic (1 year, $7.7 million plus T.O.)
-2027 Dallas 1st round pick (1-2 protected)
-2029 Charlotte 1st round pick (lottery protected)

Why
-Wolves get further depth at the 4, wing and guard spot as Williams and Martin have good value based contracts. They would have to waive a few of their minimum players to make this happen

Conley/Dillingham/Micic
Divencenzo/Walker/Shannon
Edwards/Martin/Ingles
McDaniels/Williams/Diop
Gobert/Reid/Garza

-The Hornets upgrade starting 5 as they get Bird Rights for Randle and look to to him in off-season to a 4 year, $150 million deal. They can sign minimum guys to fill out rest of roster

Ball/Mann/Smith
Green/Curry/FA
Bridges/Miller/FA
Randle/Salaun/FA
Williams/Richards/Gibson

No for me, dawg.

Miles plays PF and has chemistry with LaMelo & Miller. After our exhibition game vs. Knicks, Miles said Miller could contend for the All-Star team.

So Miles isn't going to steal touches from the team's top 2 options (LaMelo being the other). Randle will.

Plus lose 2 first round draft picks and 2 solid bench players in Micic and Grant Williams?

For a downgrade at the 4. Randle is a ball pounder and he can't pressure the rim like Miles and the team lacks rim pressure talent.
