ATL / MIL / NOP / TOR - Ingram to Hawks

Post#1 » by realball » Thu Oct 3, 2024 4:15 pm

Atlanta Hawks trade:
Clint Capela, DeAndre Hunter, Bogdan Bogdanovic

Atlanta Hawks receive:
Brandon Ingram, Bruce Brown, Jordan Hawkins

Atlanta gets an upgrade in talent while also shedding long-term contracts (but also lose C depth).

Young/Daniels
Brown/Hawkins
Ingram/Rissacher
Johnson/Nance
Okongwu/Zeller

Milwaukee Bucks trade:
Brook Lopez

Milwaukee Bucks receive:
Jakob Poetl

Milwaukee trades for a younger, more mobile C on a cheaper long-term contract (but also lose some spacing).

Dame/Wright
Trent/Connaughton
Middleton/Prince
Giannis/Portis
Poetl/?

New Orleans Pelicans trade:
Brandon Ingram, Jordan Hawkins

New Orleans Pelicans receive:
Brook Lopez, Bogdan Bogdanovic

Pelicans trade Ingram and balance their lineup with C who can space the floor for Zion (but take on Bogdanovic's contract).

Murray/Alvarado
Murphy/McCollum
Jones/Bogdanovic
Zion/Marshall
Lopez/Theis/Missi

Toronto Raptors trade:
Jakob Poetl, Bruce Brown

Toronto Raptors receive:
DeAndre Hunter, Clint Capela

Raptors trade Poetl for a younger starter in Hunter, and swap expirings as well with Capela and Brown.

Quickley/Mitchell
Barrett/Walter
Hunter/Dick
Barnes/Boucher
Capela/Olynyk

This only makes sense for Atlanta and New Orleans.

Does Milwaukee want to lose the floor spacing provided by Lopez? Seems lateral at best.

It’s a no from Toronto. No use for Capela, and Hunter has little value….unless Jordan Hawkins or Yves Missi are coming back as an incentive.

Hawks DECLINED taking Ingram as part of the Dejounte Murray trade. I don't see them circling back to him now.
Hawks lose center size on defense and rebounding with Capela and 3pt shooting of Hunter and Bogi which is a Quin staple and allows Trae to operate with floor spreaders.

I would think about it if I were Toronto. Maybe Okongowu (sp) instead as part of a bigger deal. DeAndre is a player we could use from a positional standpoint.

This is not a good deal for the Pels. Lopez is an aging center on an expiring deal. I think the fit is good but it isn't a long term move. Why should we give up a player we just drafted and take on a longer term contract, to move off a player that is expiring anyway?

Imo it seems really bad for nola. Even if they lose ingram for nothing next summer i think they prefer that over taking this big value loss in a trade. Its like death for a gm

If the Hawks declined taking back Ingram as a part of the Dejounte trade I'm sure it had to do with the value he'd be replacing in the deal (surely we wouldn't be talking 2 picks + Dyson Daniels but much less). But in this case, Hunter is a negative contract and Capela is just an expiring, so Bogdanovic is the only one the'd miss but he's getting up in age (32 right now). OTOH Hawkins is an interesting young shooter and Ingram is the best player in the deal, so this sounds like a good deal for the Hawks if they can either re-sign or re-route Ingram.

One of the biggest stumbling blocks to the Hawks interest in Ingram was they were unwilling to pay him his ask of a max contract, that has not changed. Hawks will be in a worse spot trying to re-route Ingram.
Capela may be expiring but still needed for our center depth especially with Okongwu battling a toe injury. Hawks become too small at center.
Ingram functions best with the ball, working in the midrange, we just had the SG guard version of him with Dejounte - not what Quin wants.

Hawks need to send some assets imo here. Not necessarily unprotected picks but it seems to good for them. I don’t like it for the Bucks, and don’t see the point for the Raptors.
NO gets a center but he is as old as the hills, the need some compensation for taking on Bogans contract.

The last thing the Hawks are going to do is send assets to part with Bogi, a reliable floor spreader on a great contract.

I get that, I guess the trade isn’t good for Atlanta either then.

Only way I see BI to the Hawks is for Hunter. The Hawks would just take their chances of him walking at the end of the season with a possibility of snt and Pels get wing depth.

I don't have Bogi as a bad contract either, so the idea of paying to get off of him is off base.

I understand that more than likely Ingram would have been worked into the Murray trade if there was mutual interest. The only way this trade works is if NOP has drastically changed their asking price to the point Atlanta is now interested where before they didn't like the price. I just don't think that is likely 3 months later. This is a low price for Ingram, but understand the fit and contract demands might not make it worth it.
