I think the likelier deal is the Warriors going all in on shooting and something between Toronto and GSW is based around Moody and Payton for Olynyk and say a pair of 2nd rounders (Moody having more value than Olynyk) or Ja'Kobe Walter and then the Warriors move Wiggins and those 2nds/Walter and a protected first of their own for a SF who can shoot, like say Cam Johnson or Finney-Smith, then you have something like this:

TJD-Olynyk
Draymond-Kuminga
Cam Johnson-Anderson
Podz-Hield
Curry-Melton

and maybe one of TJD, Olynyk or Anderson drops out of the rotation for the playoffs and Draymond moves to the 5 (after avoiding that spot except for crunch time to save his body) for a Draymond-Kuminga-Johnson-Podz-Curry starting 5.
Where's the D?

No that’s a bad deal, unless you’re a GSW homer.

Payton is a negative contract.
Moody is up for a new contract - if he performs well you have to pay him big, and if he doesn’t perform, this was a bad deal.

I can see Moody being interesting to Toronto if they want to make Scottie Barnes happy as a former teammate.

Olynyk would look nice if GSW wants shooting. Here’s an alt:

Olynyk + Brown
for
Wiggins + Payton + Moody + ‘25 1st (top 10 prot)

If Payton is a bad contract despite expiring, then Brown is too. GP2 at least has a chance to perform up to his salary if he's able to stay healthy.

Yeah Brown is overpaid. But he will actually play, unlike “injury man” Payton. And you can plug him in 1-3.

Also, Wiggins is overpaid too (albeit less than the other guys), and his cap hit goes into future years.

In this version of the trade, GSW is dumping >$5M in salary, to be used for a targeted acquisition / buyout.

We’re not really talking about great players here, and to be honest all these guys have some flaws. This is more about complementary guys, cap management and timeline fit.

Yeah agree with this. That's why I'd rather keep it simpler and smaller. If Toronto is interested in taking a flier on Moody then I'd offer something like Moody/Payton/2nds for Olynyk and if that was too rich for Toronto, just move on to the next idea.

I don't think any of these guys are worth giving up a 1st for, even if it's attached to bad salary.

Surely there's some middle ground between those 2 options no?

I just don't see Warriors giving up a first for Olynyk

Or to move off Wiggins. Agreed. Unless that protection on the pick is getting upped significantly

As a Raptors fan I'd do Moody and Payton for Olynyk without the picks. Helps the tank, I doubt Moody draws some huge RFA offer to match and we're rebuilding, trading a 33 year old for a 22 year old just makes sense. He could take Agbaji's role (I haven't seen anything to think Ochai is an actual rotation guy, just a solid 10th or 11th man type).

Quickley-Moody-Barrett-Barnes-Poeltl
Mitchell/Shead-Walter-Dick-Boucher-Fernando

and then the 2025 and 2026 drafts hopefully bring us a star wing and our center of the future.

A deal that makes the Raps worse immediately without giving up future assets is a good deal. I like all of these variations.
