Nets-Heat
Heat get Simmons, PHX25FRP, NYK25FRP
Nets get Butler
Heat don't want to re-sign Butler and know he's a flight risk. Nets are keen on Butler and take him for cheap here rather than waiting for FA.

Re: Nets-Heat
Nets aren't a Butler trade away from the playoffs. This would be the same team as last year with Butler, who hasn't played 70 games in a long time, in place of Bridges.

The Nets don't have the roster for this.

Re: Nets-Heat
If Butler can stay healthy he could be the difference between a 20-win Nets team and a 35-win Nets team. I'm not sure what the point in that is for the Nets though, especially after going through the trouble of getting their picks back for the next 2 years. Any long-term team building is going to involve guy to young to help while Butler is still relevant even if they resign him.
Meanwhile Miami tanks out of the playoffs (probably also to around 30-35 wins).

CamT, Butler, CamJ, Clowney, Claxton
Schroeder, Keon Bojan, DFS, Sharpe
I think they'd be decent but point taken on the fit

Re: Nets-Heat
Let me get it straight: the Nets just traded away a lot of their prized Suns picks to get their own back so that they'd have a 2 year window to tank, and now you want them to get a 35 year old to win an extra 10/15 games at best to ensure those picks are mediocre??? A headscratcher right here, even if it would be a nice deal from an assets perspective.

Re: Nets-Heat
No from Brooklyn. Even IF we are genuinely interested in adding a 35yo Jimmy to a rebuilding core, we won't spend assets to get him a year earlier. That would only serve to reduce our war chest of picks, and reduce our odds of getting Flagg next summer.
Besides, I feel Butler's motivation for liking us is to leverage for a long term extension from Miami.

Re: Nets-Heat
TBH this deal doesn't make sense for either side. BRK is not contending, why would they trade away picks that could help them rebuild? On Miami's side, Jimmy for Simmons is a five tier downgrade all the way across the board. Two bad picks doesn't make the loss any more palatable.

I thought Butler liked the Nets because of how they treated Simmons. Not sure he would like them without Simmons there.

He and Simmons don't get along from what I understand.
