This isn't that far off the going rate for guys like Claxton (Centers who fall somewhere between 15-20 ranking position-wise). Look at what Claxton's contemporaries have gone for over the past 5 years. Poeltl, Capela, Allen, Adams. The average value these guys are returning is somewhere between the 15th-20th pick. Maybe MEM needs to throw in a 2nd but the value isn't that far off based on recent history. The C market is not strong right now because almost everyone has a "solid" center and the one's that don't are the bottom feeders that don't really have a need for one. If MEM is willing to wait until JAN that could also drive the price down as someone like Poeltl could shake loose and the asking price wouldn't be that high (non-lotto 1st). Maybe they take a flier on RW3 for cheap. I personally don't believe the market for non top 10 C's is all that strong. I will concede that BKN holding Claxton makes sense as his contract is declining and that could up his value for a trade for next off-season (or even the one after). I just don't know if it's ever going to get into guaranteed lotto pick territory.
Poeltl went for a lotto pick.
Can’t imagine why BKN would prefer that handful of mediocrity to Claxton.
And all those other guys went for a pick in the 20's. There were also extenuating circumstances in that Poeltl trade: it was a bad trade by the Raptors and the Raptors were not expecting to give up a pick that high (I would also bet SAS was not expecting to get a top 10 pick out of that trade). If BKN is hoping to repeat that then I say good luck. I also don't know why BKN needs Claxton when they are going to be bad for the next 2-3 years. I'm not saying they should take the MEM deal but it's not far off from what I'd expect they'd actually get. They should ask for more but I don't think they'll get much more, especially from MEM who I assumed drafted Edey to be a starter in the near future. If I were BKN I would target NOP and try to take back McCollum and the surplus assets that would come from that type of deal.
I mean the Cavs ate some bad salary mid season in addition to the first they gave up to get Allen. The former really mattered as there were very few teams in a position to do so. Also, while the pick belonged to the Bucks, it wasn't protected.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.
