Jabari Smith to Philadelphia

Post#1 » by MoreyWins » Tue Nov 12, 2024 5:53 am

Houston sends: Jabari Smith Jr.
Philadelphia sends Guerschon Yabusele, KJ Martin, LAC 2028 1st, and PHI 2030 Top-3 protected 1st

Nick Nurse might be able to unlock something in Jabari Smith's offense that he can't find under Udoka. His role in Houston has him in a box that doesn't maximize the player he was when he was drafted #3. Nurse might be able utilize him better on offense.

Houston brings in a better shooter, a player who had success with Sengun, and draft picks that can be used for a future swing trade for a star. Yabu might be the a better and more affordable option for the role Jabari plays in.

Why would HOU prefer some late picks and mediocre players to Smith?

Replace Yabusele with Ricky Council and PHI pick with the crappy pick OKC sent which makes it
KJM
Concil
unprotected 28 1st
late 26 1st

That's a good offer for both teams IMO...

I protecting a pick helps.

Maybe HOU fans will weigh in.

Seems cheap. Kings should be interested at these costs.

The unprotected Clippers 1st holds some value with James and Kawhi aging. As does the Philly pick that will convey towards the end Embiid era. Yabusele plugs into Jabari's role seamlessly and is more efficient as a shooter. Yabusele might be more adept to that role, too. Jabari needs more TLC on the offensive end, and Ime doesn't specialize on that side of the court.

If Yabusele fits seamlessly why doesn’t PHI just keep
Him?

Not sure some Rockets fans have ever really witnessed a rebuild before, but it can take young guys quite a bit of time to develop into the player they are going to be. Jabari is only 21, there were 20+ players drafted a few months ago that are older than he is right now.

For whatever reason, he completely changed / removed the arch from shooting form, and can't seem to hit anything anymore, unlike college where he was one of the best shooters in his class. I feel like if he just corrects this, he could have an overnight transformation.

Perhaps he never gets there, and we could look back on this trade as silly for not taking it a few years from now, but I wouldn't trade him in a non star move, unless it is a ridiculous pick overpay.

All the Jabari stuff feels like over reactions, but as a jazz fan I’m happy to offer Sexton + a pick or two.

Philly is in no position to send out assets in hope of a young player improving. Can't do that in Embiids prime.

Yeah this feels like an odd deal both ways. Houston shouldn't want to dilute their assets and Philly should be pursuing win-now upgrades, not trying to buy low on underperforming young guys.
