NO gets bigs; DET gets it spacing g; BKN test drive Ingram

Post#1 » by Xman » Fri Nov 15, 2024 9:10 pm

Ok - combining ideas from several other posts:
- DET getting a better spacing pg (someone who can shoot and not turn the ball over 5 times a game)
- NO still needs big men

BKN - sends Simmons, 2029 first (lowest of PHX, HOU, Dal), 2031 DET 2nd.
- gets Ingram, Tate
BKN gets expirings so salary space next year is still open. But, this lets them test drive Ingram before buying. Yes, I realize they were thinking about tanking but the East is so bad they might as well gear up a little in case they end up in the playoffs. Finally ends the Simmons era. The 2029 first is low value so not a big thing to give up.

NO - sends Ingram,
- gets I.Stewart, Landale, JeffGreen, 2031 DET 2nd, 2029 DET 1st (protected 14, 14, becomes Det+Minn 2nds in 2030).
NO gets three big men that help now. Landale and Green are team options so not tying up salary cap next year. Loses the points from Ingram but others can fill in there. NO also gets under the luxury tax (even is Sasser came here instead of Houston would be under).

DET - sends IStewart, Sasser, THJ, 2029 DET 1st (protected 14, 14, becomes Det+Minn 2nds in 2030).
- gets Vleet
The idea here is a spin-off of other poster saying Cade needs spacing. Vleet can lead with the ball or play off ball due to his shot. He would provide great veteran leadership for Ivey and Cade.

HOU - sends Vleet, Tate, Landale, JeffGreen, 2029 HOU 2nd
- gets Simmons, THJ, Sasser, $7 mil TPE, 2029 first (lowest of PHX, HOU, Dal).
First, even though he is probably a career backup, love bringing Sasser back to Houston where he played college ball (although is sent to NO, then adds a little to the TPE). Except for Sasser, HOU gets expirings so not messing with the cap for next year. The big give by Houston is Vleet, their starting pg. But, frankly, he is not needed anymore. The Rockets are looking good when they run one scoring guard (Green or Vleet) with three strong defenders (Amen, Brooks, Eason, Jabari). Getting a future low value first is some value even if not much (almost had the pick going to NO come here instead). But, also clears minutes for Reed/Amen to produce.

So Detroit provides all the value for Ingram and gets Van Fleet in return? How does that make sense?
Personally wouldn't trade Beef Stew straight up for Van Fleet, so this one's deader than dead on arrival, imo.

Swap Vleet for Reed then were talking, no interest in Vleet.

I mean, if OP thinks that our package has enough value to net Ingram, then we should just trade for Ingram. Not sure I want to do that either, but I want to do it a lot more than I want to pay that for Vleet.

Yeah I'm not understanding this trade.

While the price isn't significant, the Nets should not be spending picks on anything but a star, and definitely not for a guy they could potentially sign outright in the offseason.
