The cash savings should be the motivation here, but unless they trade Brogdon I don't see the need for for a PG with Poole and Bub there.

Poole isn't really a PG, Bub is a rookie...

PDX simply doesnt have the rotation minutes for Matisse IMO - we can buy out Micic and come out of it saving some money and getting some SRP.

CHA gets a tone setter on defense.

this is my favorite I think. If the player coming back doesn't matter to Portland, I'd send Martin to Portland (essentially the same contract, about $400k more, final year not guaranteed ... and Martin would be an awful awful awful fit with Thybulle anyway)

then flip Micic to one of the teams that actually wants him and would be offering Boucher/Kleber/Holmes/whoever else. I think Boucher being an expiring is my favorite out of those, and Charles Lee can live out his dream of having players at every position that only like to fire threes

I would prefer Micic for the EC. Martin has a year longer on his deal.

Holmes is useless to us with Sarr, JV, and Bagley able to fill the center minutes; Micic is useless to us with Poole, Bub, Brogdon (and Jared Butler) taking the PG minutes. We aren't planning on resigning Holmes; probably not Micic either though he could look really good in practice and be resigned. Why not save 4 million and help out a team that isn't tanking (yet).

It really does make the most sense. Holmes/some kind of compensation for the money difference for Micic.

Hornets get a veteran big, Wizards get a cheaper player to trade or waive after the trade deadline.

In a vacuum I don't think Holmes for Micic is terrible but I also don't think that solves much for the Hornets, who probably would be playing Holmes 15 mpg at the most right now, and even less once Mark Williams or Nick Richards is back. Let alone if both are healthy.

Moussa Diabate is probably a better fit in the short term, Grant Williams is going to steal some mins at the 5 no matter how healthy the team is too.
